According to the website “”, the number of deaths will increase within 20 years because our society is getting older, which means there will be a shortage of places in cemeteries for traditional burials. It is estimated that there will be enough places for approximately 8 to 10 years. And what next? The bishops decided to address the problem and changed the rules regarding funerals with an urn. Urns take up less space in the cemetery, but this type of burial was not regulated by church regulations.

Now this is about to change. The bishops also changed the farewell texts during Mass readings and adapted them to the ceremony when the ashes of the deceased person are in an urn.
