Before Stanis³aw Mikulski played the role of Hans Kloss, it was offered to Andrzej May. However, he refused, putting theater and contact with the audience in the foreground. The actor died in 1993 after suffering three strokes.

Andrzej May played, among others, Stanisław Połaniecki in “The Połaniecki Family”. Participation in the production brought him great recognition. Not everyone knows that in 1965 he received an offer to play Hans Kloss in “Higher Than Life at Stake”. It was supposed to be the first version created for the Television Theater. May refused.

Andrzej May’s career. He had a chance to play Hans Kloss, but the rejection was short

Andrzej May was born in 1934. He finished high school in Kalisz, and when he was not accepted into journalism, he chose Łódź. After graduating in 1958, he performed on stage, where he felt most comfortable throughout his life.

Initially, “The stakes are greater than life” was to be produced as a series for the Television Theater. Andrzej May was offered the main role because he was noticed by director Janusz Morgenstern. The reply to the telegram was short. “Thank you, I won’t use it,” May wrote. This approach surprised the director very much. He couldn’t believe that the actor didn’t want to cooperate and take advantage of the huge opportunity for even greater development

What did Andrzej May die from? The actor did not stop working

Andrzej May did not want to work on the production of “The Stakes Greater than Life” because he was afraid that he would not be able to reconcile it with work in the theater, which would result in him being separated from the audience. Comfort and working in conditions he liked were more important to him than gaining more recognition and money. Interestingly, when “Higher Than Life at Stake” was produced as a series, he took a small role and appeared in the first episode. A few years after the premiere of “The Połaniecki Family”, May was absorbed in working late at the theater, and although he was told that he should slow down, he did not want to hear about it. Some time later he had a stroke. He resigned from his job only after his second stroke, which left him partially paralyzed. After the third stroke, the actor was put into a coma from which he never woke up. He died at the age of 59 on December 7, 1993.
