Fortune telling has been around for centuries, and while it is not the most popular or reliable way to gain insight into the future, many people still practice it and believe in predictions. For some people, it is a way to relax and a hobby that is treated with a pinch of salt, and of course there is nothing wrong with that. However, there are cases when some people completely entrust their decisions to the cards and what the fortune teller said. There are also those who laugh at it and then rub their eyes in surprise. The proof of these words is the story of our reader, who described her experience with a fortune teller in a sincere letter to the editor of nazwa.gazeta.pl.

I am a believer, so I approach all predictions and superstitions with a pinch of salt. I read and listen, but I don’t analyze it because I simply don’t believe in it. And I’m not saying that I’m not interested in this topic, because I’m not, but I approach it with caution. Personal experience also taught me this. A few years ago, my husband and I were walking through the Old Town of Toruń. At one point, a fortune teller approached me and said that she had been watching me for some time and would really like to see my hand because she was concerned about me. I was shocked because no one had ever spoken to me this way before.
At first I refused, but after exchanging a few words with the woman I decided that I could try because I had nothing to lose. The fortune teller told me that soon my parents would suffer a terrible disease and all responsibilities would be passed on to me. Although I was worried, I thought it was nonsense, because my parents are in great shape considering their age, so why should their health decline. I ignored the topic and didn’t come back to it for a long time.

It was only when my parents fell ill with the coronavirus that I became terrified because I felt that the fortune teller’s prediction was coming true. We all thought the disease would be temporary, but it wasn’t. Mom had a hearing problem, and dad still complains about his eyesight and sense of smell. As if that wasn’t enough, they were diagnosed with serious lung changes and rehabilitation is necessary. The parents also complained of pain in the chest and had problems with defecation. Quite healthy people turned really bad in a short period of time. I have a deep feeling that the fortune teller was right. If I had taken care of them earlier, wouldn’t all this have happened?
