The finalists of “The Couple’s Charm” argued over the main prize. Because of the scandal, the program disappeared from the air?

“Czar par” was a real phenomenon of Polish Television, but it disappeared from the air as quickly as it appeared. The reason was said to be a scandal that started with a quarrel among the finalists of the third edition over the main prize. What was it really like? Years after these events, previously unknown facts finally came to light.

In 1993, the program “Czar par” by Bożena Walter debuted on Polish Television, combining elements of a reality show. The first part was conducted in a duet with Hanna Dunowska. Although the format attracted many participants, and each episode attracted a million viewers, it was taken off the air after 3 years. The reason was an alleged conflict between the finalists of the last edition.

They fought persistently to win the “Couple Cup”. Before the final fight, they declared a fair division of prizes

Each series provided both viewers and participants with many extreme emotions and impressions. However, the biggest sensation was the 3rd edition, in which two families, Mirosław and Zbigniew Kornalewicz, and Renata and Dariusz Maron, reached the finals. The fight for the win was fierce, as both pairs went head to head, scoring the same number of points at each stage. Finally, the producers decided on the final outcome, which was to take place in the form of a “Big Game” hosted by .

From the very beginning, the couple had great sympathy for each other and declared that victory was of no importance to them. Just before the final clash, they announced that regardless of the result, they would divide the prizes fairly between themselves. – We have been friends since the beginning of this program. We would like to say that no matter how it is decided, we will share the prizes with “Super Express”. In overtime, the Kornalewicz family took the lead and ultimately became the winners of the program. At that time, they still claimed that their previous declarations were valid and they did not intend to withdraw from them. – We will sell the prizes and divide the money – they argued.

The conflict between the finalists of the program caused a scandal. Is this why the show went off the air?

The winning couple received an apartment in Łódź worth PLN 1.5 billion, a Seat Toledo for PLN 400 million and a set of furniture of the same value. Exbud, the company responsible for financing the property, knowing about their intentions, decided to pay them the equivalent in cash so that they could easily share the winnings, but the division never took place. Supposedly, the case was supposed to end in court, but Renata Marona denied this in an interview with the website – Initially, we reached an agreement, we were in their apartment, and there was to be a division. But suddenly they stopped answering the phones. Contact has been lost. However, this did not result in any court case. These are media embellishments, she said. Ultimately, she and her husband received, among others: a trip to Australia, a language course, cash and many other prizes for each episode, including e.g. a TV set.

The conflictual situation received wide coverage in the media and ultimately the 3rd edition of “Couples’ Charm” was the last one. For many years, it was believed that the reason for the removal from the broadcast was this scandal, but it is apparently another rumor, and plans to suspend the format appeared much earlier. – It was already said that our edition would be the last. So I don’t know where these rumors came from. Especially since they appeared much later, the participant added.
