What makes us so eager to shop at the end of November? Of course, promotions. And these are lurking at every step and can tempt almost anyone. A specific product has caught your eye for a long time and you can finally afford to buy it? Perfect, but we don’t always buy what we really need. And here it is worth asking yourself a few questions before making a decision.
First: unfair practices of sellers
Although consumers have been protected by the EU Omnibus directive since the beginning of this year, some sellers may still be implementing it or, worse still, ignoring the regulations. This is about providing information about the price of a specific product within the last 30 days. Now stores are obliged to inform about changes, but we may come across lack of information or carefully hiding it under a lot of other content. Let’s not be fooled! I guess no one wants to “catch” their dream clothes or electronics with little or no value changes?
Secondly: cold calculation
We all like to save money, that’s obvious. But how do you avoid falling into “shopping madness” in the light of aggressive advertising campaigns? “It won’t be cheaper”, “Don’t hesitate” and a number of similar slogans make every consumer abandon cold calculations and still be tempted by a given product. Do we really need running shoes if we did this activity a few years ago and had no plans to return? Do we need another similar sweater that won’t leave our vast wardrobe anyway? This is how planning our home budget can change quickly. Let’s think in advance what product we really need to avoid unpleasant disappointment when we look into our wallet.
Thirdly: in harmony with yourself and nature
It cannot be denied that consumer awareness has been really increasing in recent years and more and more people decide to act in harmony with nature. Research by euronews.com shows that Black Friday is associated with a huge increase in greenhouse gas emissions during deliveries. In Great Britain alone, this value is over 386,000 tons. We can reduce our carbon footprint, at least to a small extent, by making conscious purchases.
Of course, this does not mean that we should completely give up any purchases. All you need is a cool calculation and purchase a product that will really be useful to you. Each unnecessary purchase is an additional burden for our planet, which sooner or later will have to deal with its effects. This benefits not only the Earth, but also our wallet.
