In the Catholic Church, Advent will soon begin, a period resembling waiting for the second coming of Jesus Christ. Advent begins exactly on the Sunday preceding the three consecutive Sundays before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve at dusk. Just after the holidays, priests, as every year, want to visit their parishioners in their homes and at the same time collect donations for church renovation or construction. In one of the parishes, the priest decided to visit the faithful a little earlier, as it turns out, already in December. His idea was not entirely appreciated by those attending the church, and our reader, who described the story in a letter to the editor, tells us more about it.
“People started arguing with each other and it was clear that they didn’t like the priest’s idea.”
I believe in God and go to church. I may not fully agree with the views of priests, but I don’t pray to them and I don’t have to put any hope in them. And actually, I’m glad that’s the case, because lately there are more and more situations when I can’t stand what they’re doing. At the last Holy Mass, during the pastoral announcements, our parish priest said something that simply stunned me. The priest announced that he intended to visit the parishioners after the carol service during Advent, because he did not want his pastoral visits to last until Easter. He explained his decision by saying that our parish is simply too large and he cannot imagine spending the whole day away from home because he also has other responsibilities. I was shocked, but as it quickly turned out, I wasn’t the only one, because after his words, chaos broke out in the church. People started arguing with each other and it was clear that they didn’t like the priest’s idea. I was silent, although I had a lot to say.
“I don’t wish such priests in my parish to anyone”
I was furious, but I didn’t show it and just waved my hand. But I thought it warmed him up. In such a case, it is not a tradition, but a simple obligation. It is clear that the priest does it not out of good will, but out of compulsion. I don’t want anyone to have such priests in their parish. Not only is there so much cleaning at home before the holidays, but we also have to pack everything home. Well, failure. I just wonder if it is similar in other parishes. If so, I feel sorry for myself and others.
Mariola.
