Hołownia was known on screen even before “Got Talent!”. Few people know him from this film

Szymon Hołownia appeared in the cast of the film “Man of the Shadows”, which premiered in 1994. The current Speaker of the Sejm starred in it as a 19-year-old and played the role of a historical figure, Bohdan Piasecki. The film was an independent production and was not a great success. And probably for this reason, few people know about Hołownia’s film past.

A film without publicity. The whole of Poland was concerned about the issue

“Man of the Shadows” is a drama directed by Jerzy Zińczuk, who was also responsible for the script (together with the writer Jan Kamiński). The film tells about a story that had a great impact in the realities of the Polish People’s Republic. It concerns the kidnapping and murder of Bolesław Piasecki’s son. Piasecki senior became famous in the pre-war period as the leader of the National-Radical Movement “Falanga”, and in the People’s Republic of Poland he sat in the Sejm for 4 terms. However, he is best known for founding the “Pax” Association, bringing together Catholics cooperating with the communist authorities.

Although the kidnapping of Bolesław Piasecki (played by Hołownia) took place on January 22, 1957, the film takes place in the 1990s. Two students then discover a film tape that recorded the murder of the son of a famous activist. Their discovery sheds new light on the terrible crime that happened years ago and gives hope for solving the case. However, the demons of the past make themselves felt.

Although “The Shadow Man” is full of historical inaccuracies, it was intended to publicize a previously unsolved mystery. The production is even available on YouTube.

Film and reality. To this day we do not know the perpetrators

To this day, the perpetrators of the kidnapping and murder of Piasecki, then 17, have not been identified. There are many theories circulating around the case. One of them casts suspicion on the Security Service or people of Jewish origin in the Security Service office. It was supposed to be revenge on his father, who had been involved in anti-Semitic activities as part of the “Falange” before the war. It could also have been about fights between internal factions in the Polish United Workers’ Party.
