Black Week and Black Friday will be special this year. All because of the EU Omnibus directive, which came into force in Poland at the beginning of 2023. Its aim is to combat unfair practices. And the list of responsibilities of sellers is really long.
This will be a really harsh “whip” against dishonest sellers. Before Black Week, product prices were often artificially raised and then lowered during a “special” promotion. But that’s in the past. Omnibus requires sellers to provide the current price and the lowest price that was valid during the previous 30 days. This law applies not only to stationary sales, in shopping centers, but also to online sales. It is the business owner who decides how he will inform customers about the change. It is important that the customer can verify actual changes.
In my opinion, the Omnibus directive will limit the ambitions of entrepreneurs who have so far been unfair to consumers. First of all, those who raise prices before Black Friday only to artificially lower them later. Of course, there will be a lot of people who will still try to circumvent the regulations, but in my opinion this will be a declining trend.

New reality and old “habits”? Stay alert
But does this mean the complete disappearance of unfair practices? Not necessarily, and there are two reasons. The first is the continuous implementation of the provisions of the directive by sellers. It can be said that some of them are “still learning” about work in its realities.
The second one is less noble and the customers who lose the most are those who decide to buy on impulse. Probably everyone knows someone who was “deceived” by a slogan like “minus 90 percent.” often marked with an asterisk. Of course, this situation usually applies only to the selected product, which is also in the seller’s warehouse. And we don’t want to regret an unnecessary expense, do we?
Knowledge is power. You can check the prices here
How to outwit dishonest sellers? The Internet comes to our aid, offering numerous price comparison websites. The most popular of them are kopiec.pl and Ceneo. To find the product you are interested in, simply use the search engines available on the websites. We can do it manually, adapting the filters to our needs, or rely on the websites’ algorithm.
It is also gaining more and more popularity cenowarka.pl. When you view a product card, the price history is displayed on the right side of the card. The time period we are interested in is available up to a year. This will take us back to last year’s Black Week.
However, there is one downside to the above search engines. They show the prices of all sellers they serve, without detailing price changes for any particular seller. Here it is worth paying attention to the following page. Portal Fake Friday allows you to verify the value of a given product from a particular seller. The operation is very simple – just enter, even a partial name of the article you are interested in.
