September was a hot period in the media when all eyes were focused on the ongoing election campaign. The way they are reported by the so-called national media raised doubts among many. One of such people is also Krzysztof Luft, who two months ago asked the chairman of KRRIT to intervene regarding the huge disproportions in access to the floor for opposition political parties on TVP.
TVP works without any problems? Why? But there is no consent for the audit
Some time ago, they reported that in the second quarter of 2023, representatives of Law and Justice were presented for 252 hours of airtime, and politicians of the Civic Coalition were presented for only ten hours. However, the head of the National Broadcasting Council, Maciej Ĺwirski, did not decide to draw any consequences in connection with these disproportions.
When the result of the parliamentary elections was already widely known, Krzysztof Luft appeared at the TVP Program Council, where he presented a draft resolution addressed to its authorities “to conduct an external audit of the method of covering the parliamentary campaign in 2023 in terms of maintaining the statutory principles of impartiality, pluralism and balance.”
The author of the application is convinced that there have been fundamental violations of the Broadcasting Act. The portal quotes the justification sent by Luft, explaining why it decided to take such an initiative:
There are many indicators whose examination would allow the Republic of Poland to formulate an opinion on this subject. An exceptionally hard indicator is the comparison of the number of direct broadcasts of speeches by politicians from the government and the opposition on TVP. Speeches by politicians from coalition parties were broadcast on TVP Info every day. Sometimes these were long broadcasts, exceeding an hour. Meanwhile, speeches by opposition politicians, their meetings with voters or journalists were never broadcast.
However, all his work was in vain. His proposed project was defeated by a vote of five to three. It was similar when he sent a complaint about unequal treatment of opposition political parties by TVP. The KRRiT website contains responses from the head of the National Broadcasting Council, who stated, among other things, that he is not aware of the methodology according to which Luft provided data on disproportions in access to the antenna.
