On November 13, Szymon Hołownia became the Speaker of the Sejm. However, until recently, the Leader of Poland 2050 was not associated with politics in Poland. He gained popularity in 2008, when, together with Marcin Prokop, he started hosting the “Got Talent” program, then he also appeared on TVN as the host of “We’ve Got You!”.
Szymon Hołownia wrote over 20 books. Now he is the Speaker of the Sejm
No one needs to be reminded about Hołownia’s television activities. The fact that he has been a presenter for years and has been associated with entertainment programs is used by his critics. Just like the information that he didn’t finish his studies. His career on TVN was recalled by Magdalena Ogórek, among others, right after the first session of the new Sejm. Another popular fact from Hołownia’s life is his attempts to become a monk. The politician stayed in the Dominican novitiate twice.
However, much fewer people realize that Szymon Hołownia is also the author of many books. The Marshal of the Sejm has published over 20 publications. He published the first one – “Church for intermediate users” in 2004. Three years later, “Tablets with a cross” was published, in which the author deals with difficult questions asked by believers. In turn, “People on Suitcases” is a collection of Hołownia’s conversations with people whose illness or other life situation almost led to death.
Hołownia wrote not only about God. What are the books of the leader of Poland 2050 about?
In “God. Life and Work” the Marshal of the Sejm attempted to write a biography of God, and in “Monopoly for Salvation” he once again reflects on topics close to believers and those who are interested in faith. An interesting item in Hołownia’s bibliography is “God, money and rock’n’roll” written together with Marcin Prokop. The book was extremely popular and received good reviews for its attempt to collide two worlds and sets of often opposing views of on-screen partners.
“Last Minute. 24 Hours of Christianity in the World” is a book that takes readers on a journey around the corners of the world, where we will find different ways to live in the Christian faith. In turn, “Heaven for Intermediate Advanced Students” is a treatise on life after death, written with Grzegorz Strzelczyk.
In 2013, another joint title by Hołownia and Prokop was published, “Everything’s OK. We’re arranging our lives.” A year later, the current Marshal of the Sejm published “Holyfood, i.e. 10 recipes for a tasty and healthy spiritual life”, which talks about spirituality in the form of a cookbook. “How to do the right thing” tells the story of Hołownia’s trip to Africa, and in “Everyday Saints” the author advises which saint to turn to for help in a specific situation.
“36 and 6 ways to avoid life’s fever, or the Catechism according to Szymon Hołownia” is a book that translates a slightly archaic catechism into today’s times. It aims to show the reader that “old truths can also be a way to live a successful life now.” In 2017, Hołownia published three books. In “Instructions for using a salt shaker” we will read columns in which the author happens to write, among others, about the then minister Waszczykowski and the issue of refugees, in “People in the time of Jesus”, he describes in detail the circumstances of the birth, death and resurrection of Christ, and in “Saints of the First Contact” he returns to describe the titular saints.
Another interesting work by Hołownia is “God’s Animals”, where he explains the approach of religion to the creatures that we have subjugated to ourselves over the centuries. In the book “Mary. Mother of a large family”, the politician publishes reflections on the Jasna Góra sanctuary and “its hostess”. The last title written by Hołownia with Prokop is “Half and Half: Conversations not for children”, published in 2019. In the same year, “Teraz albo Nasze” was published, i.e. a collection of the journalist’s texts written in “Tygodnik Powszechny”. Szymon Hołownia’s last book so far is “Fabryka jutra” from 2020. The publishing house talks about the reasons and background of the long-time journalist and presenter’s entry into the world of politics.
