“Duży Format” wrote about this case in an article entitled “”. It describes the story of a student who prepared a song that was to be part of a female verbal-vocal performance. Natalia Capelik-Muianga wrote the piece
“I do not regret”, which the rector of the university, prof. Ryszard Minkiewicz.
The song of a student from Gdańsk was blocked by the rector. “Duck flies around the capital without a mask. It is Poland, welcome to the great wilderness”
The song “Nie żałować” describes attachment to the country, and at the same time sadness and bitterness with the current situation. Natalia Capelik-Muianga made a lot of references to the current politics in the piece. The text includes references to Andrzej Duda (with reference to Mata’s “Patokreacja”), high fuel prices, anti-abortion posters, the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border or commemorative banknotes issued by the National Bank of Poland.
In the piece, you can hear such lines as: “Duck flies without a mask around the capital. This is Poland, welcome to the great wilderness”, “I’m too old for 500 plus”, “Because who will give us, if not PiS-da”, “Andrzej calls Jordan (Jordan)”, “Kulski heals his gums, Zenek will play congas for him”.
The reason for the rector’s decision was to be the political overtone of the piece. In June, a meeting of the university Senate was even called in June. The Rector cited a legal opinion according to which the publication of the song could expose the student to an offense against decency or an allegation of insulting a public authority. The student herself and her teachers were surprised by the opinion ordered by the rector.

Dismissal of a professor who defended a student. “I persuaded to talks and mediations”
The initiator of the concert, Dr. Krystyna Stańko, and the guitarist, head of the Department of Jazz and Stage Music, prof. Maciej Grzywacz. They explained that it was an expression of rebellion and contained elements of sharp language. The arguments did not convince the rector, who suspended the concert. But that was not all, the rector also dismissed prof. Grzywacz.
– I believed that the rector’s decision limited the guarantee under Art. 73 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, freedom of artistic creativity for the creators of this project – wonderful young artists. I put in a word for them. I encouraged talks and mediations, appealed for organizing a debate on the freedom of artistic expression with the participation of representatives of other Polish art academies. The Rector rejected my proposals – said in an interview with the Polish Armed Forces prof. Maciej Grzywacz.
The dismissal decision was to include such reasons as criticism of the superiors, “pushing through one’s own visions” or problems with administering the university’s social profile. Alleged problems with prof. Grzywacz were to appear in 2020. The head of the Jazz Department himself believes that the real reason for his dismissal was his disagreement with the censorship of the song.
Prof. Grzywacz appealed to the labor court, where a mediation proposal was made. So far, the rector has not responded to her because she is on sick leave. Interventions in the matter were also taken by MPs from the Civic Platform – Agnieszka Pomaska and Tadeusz Aziewicz, who wrote to Minister Gliński on the limits of creative freedom and repression against prof. Grzywacz, but also Dr. Stańko.
