“Magic Fern Flower” is a captivating story not only for children, but also for their parents. Based on a fairy tale by Józef Ignacy Kraszewski, the film was enriched with characters from Slavic mythology. On the screen, in addition to the search for the mythical flower of the main character – Jacek, there are, among others: Kłobuk, Ognik, the devil Rokita or Strzyga.
“Magic Fern Flower”. What is the movie about?
Jacek, at the instigation of the herbalist, sets off in search of a fern flower. A flower that, according to Slavic beliefs, is to provide the finder with eternal abundance. In this way, the poor boy wants to save his sick sister. To do this, he has to face the dangers lurking in the forest. Including these cunning demons. However, Jacek will have to fight the biggest fight with himself. Will he be able to find the fern flower and preserve its values?
– We often hear the question why we are transferring “The Fern Flower” to the screen. The answer is simple: we wanted to return to childhood, magic and fairy tales. “The Fern Flower” tells about the first steps and choices, about the path of maturation as well as about desire and love. Everything that many people face in their adolescence – says the producer – Marta Filipiak about the project.
“Magic Fern Flower” is a combination of an excellent acting game, modern computer techniques and gigantic, hand-built scenography – a cave several meters long or dozens of models depicting dark forests, swamps and villages. And all this in the spirit of sustainable production, as materials from recycling and upcycling were mainly used to create this magical world.
Vision and passion attract. The invitation to the film was accepted, among others, by: Janusz Chabior, Piotr G³owacki, Sebastian Stankiewicz, Laura Breszka and Jerzy Bończak. The main character, Jacek, was played by Staś Kotwicki, who debuted on the big screen.
Katarzyna Płońska is the author of the script, Sebastian Kwidzyński and Marta Filipiak are responsible for directing. Although all three have been involved in the production of films and series for years, it is the first feature film in their output in these positions. The producer of “Magic Paproci Flower” is the Czarny Karzeł Foundation. The co-producers are: Grupa Moderator Studio Filmowe Sp. z o. o., Wytwórnia Filmów Dokumentalnych i Fabularnych and Fixa Film Sp. z o. o. NEXT FILM is responsible for distribution.
“The Magic Fern Flower” will hit theaters in 2023.
