Graham Chase Robinson worked with De Niro for 11 years. She was employed as his personal assistant and later promoted to vice president of production and finance for Canal Productions. However, the company was not entirely satisfied with the employee’s services and sued her for six million dollars. Robinson was accused of stealing company property, abusing funds on company credit cards for private purposes and embezzling money for unnecessary luxuries in hotels and restaurants. Additionally, Canal Productions noted in the lawsuit that Ms. Robinson spent an “astronomical amount of time” watching Netflix, even though the activity had no connection with her work. After five hours of deliberation, the jury found Robinson not guilty.
De Niro’s company accused the actor’s assistant. The employee filed a countersuit
After the company filed a lawsuit, Robinson resigned from her job and also blamed Canal Productions. De Niro’s employee accused the company of years of discrimination, harassment and a hostile work environment. She accused the actor of sexism, insults and violence. She demanded compensation in the form of $12 million. Robinson claims the actor called her a “whore” and sometimes “office wife.”
Robinson testified that De Niro required her to be available at all hours, including holidays. The actor’s former assistant claims that she suffered from anxiety and depression due to her work in the star’s company. “I lost my life. I lost my career. I lost my financial independence. I lost everything,” she said.
Robert De Niro’s company must pay compensation to the actor’s former assistant
During two days of testimony, De Niro denied the accusations. He emphasized that he “never, ever” used violence. He only admitted that he sometimes pushed the employee or raised his voice in her presence. Robinson, in turn, testified that at least twice the actor “asked her to scratch his back,” which she called forcing her to “unwanted touch.” De Niro shrugged off a question on the matter. He sneered, “Twice? You got me!”
According to the BBC, the jury did not find the actor personally responsible for Robinson’s allegations in the civil trial. However, Robert De Niro’s company, Canal Productions, will have to pay the former employee. According to the jury’s decision, the former assistant is entitled to compensation in the amount of $1.2 million due to gender discrimination.
