But the real architect of the success of the story and its epic fights was the recently deceased Pat E. Johnson, who not only acted as the referee of the fights in the franchise, but was also in charge of their choreography.

Born in New York in 1939, Pat E. Johnson made his mark in the entertainment industry coordinating, as a stuntman, fights in films from the beginning of the last century, such as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (1990), “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (1992 .) and “Mortal Kombat” (1995).
These opportunities in the entertainment industry came after he learned Tang Soo Do, an ancient form of karate, while serving in the US Army in Korea in 1963, as Variety reported.

According to Univisión, Pat E. Johnson died at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 84 of natural causes, as revealed by his wife Sue Berkland via Facebook.

His departure caused deep pain to both Karate Kid fans and the original cast, such as Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, who played ‘Johnny’ Lawrence. Both actors took to their Instagram stories to share their goodbyes with the actor who taught Macchia the iconic Crane Kick, which Daniel won the All Valley Karate Tournament championship with in the first film.
