Did you miss “Love Actually”? After 20 years, our favorite heroes return to cinemas

“Love Actually” has been a must-see film in December for many people for two decades. You will be able to see this story on the big screen again.

“Can you believe that 20 years have passed since the world premiere of the comedy Love Actually, loved by millions of fans?” – asks the distributor, announcing the return of the production to the screens. It turns out that on the occasion of the anniversary, the film has been remastered and from December 8 you will be able to see it in cinemas in 4K quality.

“Love Actually” is a classic. Others followed suit – or at least tried to

“Love Actually” by Richard Curtis from 2003 is considered one of the favorite Christmas films around the world. The film, which starred such stars as Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Rowan Atkinson, Alan Rickman, Billy Bob Thornton and Bill Nighy, cost $40 million. He earned as much as $244 million. It gave rise to many other productions which (often also in a Christmas atmosphere) told supposedly unrelated stories of many characters who had some connection with each other. Examples? Polish series “Letters to M.” or the American “New Year’s Eve in New York”.

In 2017, many of the actors met on the set of “Red Nose Day Actually”, also written by Curtis. The short film showed what happened to 12 heroes after 14 years to raise money as part of a large charity event.

“Love Actually” was supposed to be two films

Richard Curtis initially started working on scripts for two separate, non-holiday films, but it grew into 14 stories in one. Which came first? One film was supposed to tell the story of the Prime Minister, played by Hugh Grant. The second film is the plot played by Colin Firth. Ultimately, 12 stories were filmed, but two of them were dropped during editing.

Bill Nighy, who starred in Love Actually, which released the musician’s Christmas single, received a BAFTA for his role. The production was also nominated for the Golden Globes for screenplay and in the best comedy or musical category. The latter statuette was won by Sofia Coppola’s “Lost in Translation”.
