The so-called “Queen of Christmas”, Mariah Carey, is facing new legal problems over her song “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, which has become a modern Christmas anthem.

The singer has been sued for alleged plagiarism by country music songwriter Andy Stone, who is seeking $20 million for alleged “copyright infringement and unjust enrichment.”

That’s what Mariah Carey wins every year for ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’; the song achieves a historical record on Spotify

Stone, who is a member of Vince Vance & the Valiants, filed the lawsuit in a California court. This is the second complaint filed by the composer against Mariah Carey for the same reason and the same song, reports El PaĆs.

The Spanish portal reports that Stone filed the first lawsuit in a Louisiana court in June 2022, but it was dismissed five months later. But now the composer has hired other lawyers and brought new accusations.

The 54-year-old singer went viral on social media this November 1 after she shared a snap of herself thawing out and heralding the Christmas season with her famous song.

Is Andy Stone the real writer of Mariah Carey’s song?

Andy Stone is not the original author of the Mariah Carey song. According to the lawsuit filed with musician Troy Powers – who helped him write the song – Carey copied certain elements of his song also called “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, which he composed in 1989.

On the other hand, the artist’s hit was released on October 29, 1994, and was written by her and Walter Afanasieff.

Although Stone admits that the song is musically different, he claims that the title is identical and that Carey never asked for permission to use it, creating an “undeserved benefit”, according to the Spanish outlet.

Like two drops of water! She is Monroe, the eldest daughter of Mariah Carey, who at the age of 11 shares the beauty and even the same appearance as her mother.

The BBC, cited by El PaĆs, conducted an investigation that shows that using the same song title is not illegal, and that there are 177 songs registered under the same name as Mariah Carey’s hit.

Despite this, Stone claims that the “compositional structure” and certain “unique linguistic structures” are identical in his song and Mariah’s.

She also stated that her song was a huge hit upon its release and that Mariah was “inspired” to create her own.

The reign of Mariah Carey begins! All of the singer’s memes on social media suggest that the Christmas season has already begun

“All I Want For Christmas Is You” was a major source of income for Carey. According to Forbes, which is cited by the Spanish media, the song earned the singer more than 60 million dollars.

Despite legal issues and accusations of plagiarism, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” continues to be one of the most played songs of the holiday season, generating even more money for Carey. (AND)
