This time, however, it is not about the number of records sold, but about plays on the streaming service. According to Spotify, thanks to the released album, the artist became “the most played artist in one day in the history of the service”. In turn, her album became “Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day in 2023.” In this way, Taylor Swift broke her previous record from 2022. Then the most played album in one day became “Midnights.”
Interestingly, due to the release of the new version of the album, the popularity of the old version of “1989” also increased. YouTube data shows that users generated 2.8 million plays of songs from the old album.
Taylor Swift decided to re-record her albums as a result of a conflict with Scooter Braun, who purchased Big Machine Records in 2018. This fact did not please the artist, who had been recording albums in consultation with the label since 2005.
