The city of Azogues celebrates its 203 years of independence on Saturday, November 4. For this, there will be cultural and social events throughout the month of November, but two for the holidays shows musicals.

Among these concerts are the performances of the international Piso 21 and Zion & Lennox, which will be presented as part of the International Azogues Festival, which will take place between November 3 and 4, 2023.

When do the Azogues festivities start?

The festivities of the capital Cañar officially started on Saturday, October 21, with the relevant proclamation. The activities commemorating the city’s independence run until November 30with more than 100 social, cultural and sporting events.

Last Friday, October 27, the election of the new sovereign took place in the Tipo Mil Coliseum, where Angeline Valle was the winner. While the solemn commemoration session will take place on November 4 at 10:00 am at the Guillermo Domínguez Tapia Town Hall.

Azogues is 32 km from Cuenca. By public transport the journey takes about 45 minutes. From the land terminal of the capital Azuaya, you can catch buses that will take you into the city, if you don’t have your own vehicle. If you want to travel from Guayaquil, the time is about four and a half hours on the Durán-Tambo road. Several cooperatives based in the Main Port’s land terminal cover that route. (JO)
