Should Sunday shopping return? “For me, this trade ban is burdensome”

From 2020, shopping on Sundays is possible only a few times a year. One of the Civic Coalition’s proposals is to abolish this ban. What do people say? Their opinions are divided: “My husband also goes to work on Sunday. And somehow no one makes a fuss about it”, “I prefer the ban to remain. It only shows that entire stores do not have to be open “.

The Sunday trading ban, which was introduced in 2018, arouses many emotions and is often the subject of heated discussions. Initially, only one Sunday a month was non-trading, but the regulations were gradually tightened. The calendar for 2023 already includes only 7 shopping Sundays, of which two Sundays are scheduled in April and December due to Easter and Christmas.

Pros and cons of the Sunday trading ban

Recently, a post was published on the Instagram profile @budzetowa, which discusses finances, savings and home budgets, about the issue of stores being open on Sundays. It not only asked people about their opinion on this subject, but also listed the pros and cons of the applicable regulations.

– Poland has been banned from trading on Sundays since 2018. From 2020, the ban covers almost all Sundays of the year. Will the opposition abolish these regulations? This was the assumption of the Civic Coalition in “100 specifics for the first 100 days of government”. But is that what we would want? Advantages of not working on Sunday: Time to rest and spend time with family. Greater turnover among small entrepreneurs who are not covered by the trade ban. Disadvantages of not working on Sunday: Economic slowdown. Lower earnings, especially if you study during the day or share childcare and can only work on weekends. A sense of injustice, because there are many professions that still have to work on Sundays even though everywhere announces that they are off. Larger queues on Saturdays – we read.

Trading ban on Sunday. Yes or no? People’s opinions are divided

There were many comments under the published post from Internet users who expressed their opinions. Some of them are completely indifferent to this, others are in favor of returning shopping Sundays, and some believe that the ban should continue to apply.

And I think they should be open. My husband also goes to work on Sunday. And somehow no one makes a fuss about public transport working on Sunday. So maybe everyone should have Sundays off?

I am in favor of introducing one working Sunday a month. I think the wolf would be full and the sheep would be whole

I miss these Sundays, I often find myself thinking that I HAVE to go to the store on Saturday because I won’t be able to do it on Sunday. It’s a bit bothersome. I understand the employees’ perspective, but I still find this trade ban burdensome

Honestly, I don’t care. I have no problem with organizing my shopping in such a way that I don’t have to go to the shops on Sunday. On the other hand, if full-time students could find employment in such stores, then why not

Everything revolves around work, people also want to have time off and live their lives. Everyone is so smart in the comments, and if they had to work on Saturday and Sunday, it wouldn’t be so colorful.

Absolutely not. I prefer the ban to stay. It only showed that shops do not have to be open all the time. Let these people enjoy their days off

I prefer no ban, let people choose for themselves whether they would rather spend Sunday at home with their families or go shopping, for me this is a forced argument.
