Laundry is a seemingly simple activity that we regularly perform in our homes. We divide clothes into light and dark ones. Unfortunately, sometimes it happens that, for example, our favorite T-shirt gets dyed during washing. Of course, we can find many products in stores that will deal with this, but why overpay when there is a cheap, old-fashioned way? See in the latest episode of Myka how easy it is!
Throw the bay leaf into the washing machine and set the laundry
Although bay leaves are a basic spice in almost every kitchen, it turns out that apart from seasoning dishes, these inconspicuous leaves also have other, even surprising uses. They are perfect for removing stains from clothes, thanks to their properties they discolor unwanted pigment. Remember, however, that bay leaves added to the washing machine can restore the natural whiteness of clothes, but the effect will not be as spectacular as with chemical bleaches. However, if you have slightly dyed clothes or grayish white T-shirts, this favorite trick of our grandmothers will work great in this case.
Just throw the leaves directly into the washing machine (the safest way is to place them, for example, in a laundry bag) and put the dyed laundry on. Sometimes, however, the stains are more persistent and then you need to take more specific action. A decoction of bay leaves will help us here. How to make it?
It’s really very simple. Place a large number of bay leaves in a pot with water. The water should boil for about 20-30 minutes. Then pour the prepared mixture into a bowl and put the dirty clothes on. Set aside for about an hour. Then just wash as usual.
Another use of bay leaves at home
How to use bay leaves in an unusual way? One idea may be to place them on the radiator. What for? Bay leaves simply smell beautiful and are great as a home air freshener. Just place a few pieces on a hot radiator and after a while you can feel the aroma rising. All you need to do is replace the leaves every few days to keep the scent as intense. It is also good to place bay leaves on the radiator in the bedroom because they contain relaxing substances such as linalool and eugenol.
