Miros³aw Ob³oński is dead. The artist has been associated with Piwnica pod Baranami since 1958. He was 85 years old.

Piwnica pod Baranami announced the death of Mirosław Obłoński on its social media. “Another painful loss. Miki Obłoński – an outstanding artist of Piwnica pod Baranami – passed away. A noble and good friend,” we read in the entry. The artist’s funeral will take place on Friday, November 3 at noon at the Podgórski Cemetery in Krakow. The cause of the artist’s death was not announced.

“Miki Obłoński was associated with Piwnica for 60 years. We are proud that there are basically four generations performing in Piwnica and Miki belonged to the first generation. He was at the beginning of the cabaret and was active until the end, he performed in December last year” – he quotes PAP interview with the director of Piwnica pod Baranami, Bogdan Mick RMF FM.

“He went to concerts with Piwnica both in Poland and abroad. He was an extremely sensitive, empathetic man and artist,” adds the director of Piwnica pod Baranami in an interview with Polish Radio.

Mirosław Obłoński, also known as Miki, was a singer, songwriter and actor. From 1958 he was associated with Piwnica pod Baranami. He graduated from the Jagiellonian University, majoring in art history. In 1964, he received the first prize together with Piwnica pod Baranami at the Opole Polish Song Festival. A year later, together with Ewa Sadowska, he won an award in Opole for the song “Blue Frying Pan”. The song soon became one of the cabaret’s anthems.

In 2003, Mirosław Obłoński retired. The artist loved performing on stage so much that despite the well-deserved rest, he still returned to the Piwnica.
