It would seem that since we pay for a garage space, we can keep basically anything we like there. Nothing could be further from the truth. Certain things are on the prohibited list. Some of them are really surprising. So where should we store the tires?
Garage as a storage room
When it comes to a place to keep a car, owners of detached houses with a private garage are in the best situation. However, not everyone can afford such convenience. Some people have to leave their car outdoors. Others, in turn, use shared garages – most often underground ones, which are located under the blocks in which they live.
It is not an uncommon sight to keep various items in such a garage. Mainly the – well – typical garage items, such as tools, car care and maintenance products, spare tires, cardboard boxes, paints and oils. It turns out that you cannot store key items in a shared garage, which most Poles store next to their car.

What we can and cannot keep in our garage is regulated by the regulations of given facilities, as well as general rules related to fire protection. It is definitely worth reading their content if you want to avoid trouble. And these can hurt us a lot. The fine for keeping prohibited items may range from PLN 500 to PLN 1,000. Not everyone knows that a ticket for violating fire regulations can be issued by a fire brigade officer.
Prohibited items include, of course, flammable items such as chemicals, cardboard, fabrics, oils and paints. Interestingly, the regulations regarding fuel are slightly different. It is an extremely flammable substance, but it is allowed to keep it in the garage. All because its ignition temperature is above 100 degrees Celsius – liquids with this property can be kept next to a car, but they must be closed in tight packaging and located at least 50 cm from devices heating above 100 degrees Celsius (this is due to fire protection regulations). The regulations of underground garages often include a ban on storing tires, scooters and electric bicycles, which also belong to the category of flammable items.
As you can see, many garages are prohibited from storing things that almost everyone keeps there. So if we want to avoid unpleasant consequences, it is definitely worth checking what the rules are like in our building
