He criticized TVP after the elections, now he apologizes. “I don’t want to give up my participation in this work!”

Marcin Wolski from “Gazeta Polska Dzień” just a week ago considered the propaganda on TVP to be co-responsible for PiS’s defeat in the elections. He came to his senses and apologized.

Marcin Wolski, columnist of the “Gazeta Polska Dzień” magazine, . He called it worse than in the 1970s, which caused astonishment – until now he had supported Telewizja Polska rather than criticized it. As you can see, after the harsh words came reflection, and then – an apology.

Marcin Wolski apologizes for criticizing TVP

The publicist allowed himself words full of pain and sincerity at the post-election meeting of the Ronin Club. It has been obvious for a long time that although PiS won the parliamentary elections in terms of the number of votes, it would not govern in the new term of office of the Sejm. Marcin Wolski sees her as complicit in this defeat.

We won everything. We have offered this society more than it could ever dream of. We have created the country of our dreams. And we have created – sorry, I say this as an accomplice – propaganda at a level worse than that of the 1970s. The logic of struggle, Stalinist logic, won: whoever is not with us is against us, he said.

Marcin Wolski’s words were widely echoed. For the first time in a very long time, there was any self-reflection by a person associated with TVP – Wolski was invited many times as a commentator on current political events. He is also still an advisor to the management board of TVP and the co-hosts of the program on TVP Info “W tyle vizja”, considered to be TVP’s answer to TVN24’s “Szkło Contactowe”.

However, the strong summary of work for PiS’s result turned out to be too strong. Marcin Wolski decided to apologize and explain himself in “Gazeta Polska Dzień”:

I only care about Poland and sometimes the despair of defeat when victory was so close overwhelms moderation. If any of you, dear readers, felt offended, I sincerely apologize. I don’t want to give up my participation in this work! I hope to continue fighting with you, for you and for us, he wrote.

“Gazeta Polska Dzień” accuses Wolski of belonging to the Polish United Workers’ Party

Although the Polish People’s Republic has been gone for almost 40 years, the echoes of the distant past are still important to some. In addition to Wolski’s statement, “Gazeta Polska Dzień” published its own statement in which it accused the journalist who wrote in its pages of being a member of the Polish United Workers’ Party. It was decided that this automatically means that one has no right to criticize the media currently operating in Poland. However, since “GPC” puts freedom of speech on a pedestal, regardless of Wolski’s party past, it will continue to publish his content:

People who are members of a totalitarian, Moscow-dependent communist party – regardless of their later life choices – simply have no right to judge or compare them to communist propaganda towards those who in recent years, attacked and humiliated, have been working for freedom of speech in Poland – said Katarzyna Gójska and Piotr Lisiewicz.

They also added that his words about propaganda on TVP were “lying and shameful” and his apology for them was right. They, in turn, were criticized by Łukasz Warzecha:

Well, this level is simply unseen. Please sit down before reading. 1. Marcin Wolski submits self-criticism to GPC. 2. Lisiewicz and Gójska suddenly remember that he was in the Polish United Workers’ Party. 3. They graciously accept self-criticism and allow Wolski to continue appearing in GPC, because there is “freedom of speech”. Monty Python wouldn’t have invented this.
