The Polish costume series based on the novel by Maria Rodziewiczówna of the same title was liked by the viewers of the TVP1 channel. Broadcast on Sunday evenings, it boasted one of the best viewership results at that time. The main roles were played by Karol Dziuba and Michalina Olszańska. According to the TV program, viewers of TV Channel One will not be condemned to reruns next Sunday evening. The schedule will include a new series produced by Telewizja Polska entitled “Valet”. This is another proposal combining elements of a costume and drama series. The series is already available for viewing on the TVP streaming service, but the television broadcast will be the premiere.
The series takes place between 1900 and 1945. It is a story about the Prussian von Krauss family and the Kashubians’ fight for autonomy, personified by Bazyli Miotke. The character of the man was inspired by the figure of the “Kashubian king”, i.e. Antoni Abraham. There is also a love story of the titular butler, i.e. Mateusz, the illegitimate son of the count and the Prussian heiress Marita, written over many years – we read in the description on the TVP VOD website.
The series consists of five episodes, which will probably be broadcast by the end of 2023. The cast included: Adam Woronowicz, Anna Radwan, Daniel Olbrychski, Diana Zamojska, Kamilla Baar-Kochańska, Marcel Sabat, Sławomir Orzechowski, and Łukasz Simlat. It is worth mentioning that in 2018, a film with the same title was also produced and screened in cinemas.
