Before the elections, the Civic Coalition published “100 specifics”, i.e. demands that are to be implemented in the first hundred days of their government. These assumptions also included many related to social policy, and one of them concerns the funeral allowance, the amount of which has not been increased for years. If politicians meet this demand, it will increase significantly compared to what it is now.

The popular allowance may amount to more than before. There is a plan for a raise
If the demand for a funeral increase is met, in July 2024 it will be much higher than before. All because, according to the assumptions, it would oscillate around 150% of the minimum wage, which would give approximately PLN 6,450. At the moment, the funeral allowance is PLN 4,000. According to the website, this is an insufficient amount. According to estimates of the Polish Chamber of the Funeral Industry, the average cost of organizing a funeral is approximately PLN 8,000. zloty. – Currently, every second family organizing a burial has problems with collecting enough money to provide a decent burial for their loved ones – says expert Robert Czyżak.
Who is entitled to funeral allowance and in what amount? ZUS will pay out money in several cases
ZUS, KRUS or the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration will pay a benefit to anyone who paid the funeral costs, even if they are not related. It may be a commune, an employer or even a nursing home. However, it should be remembered that the deceased had to be insured for the benefit to be paid. The amount goes to families in the amount of PLN 4,000, and in the case of an employer or a commune, it will cover documented costs incurred, but not more than PLN 4,000.
