Zinebi will show 128 films and will reward journalist Félix Linares
The International Documentary and Short Film Festival Zinebi of Bilbao, organized by the Bilbao City Council, will begin a new edition on Friday November 10 with the opening gala directed by La Dramática Errante (Ane Pikaza and María Goiricelaya), who will also be in charge of the closing ceremony in which the awards for the 65th edition of the contest will be presented.
The complete program was presented this morning at the Bilbao City Council, in an appearance in which the Councilor for Culture and Governance of the Bilbao City Council, Gonzalo Olabarria, the Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy and Spokesman of the Basque Government, Bingen, participated. Zupiria, and the director of Zinebi, Vanesa Fernández Guerra.
In total, they will participate 128 movies from 43 states. More than half of the films presented are premieres in the Spanish State, and more than half have been led by women.
Official section
ZINEBI screenings are grouped into two parts: official section (which includes the two international competitions) and other screenings. Within the official section, it presents a selection of 58 films from 35 states that are rigorously premiered in the State. Among them, it is worth highlighting seven Basque productions (or co-productions) that will be screened at the end of the Festival’s opening gala: Sour (David Pérez Sañudo, 2023), Betiko gaua (Eneko Sagardoy, 2023), In a Nearby Field (Laida Lertxundi and Ren Ebel, 2023), Memories of an Empty House (Bruno Carnide, 2023), The illustrated woman (Isabel Herguera, 2023), Salt covers everything (Joana Moya, 2023) and Ximinoa (Itziar Leemans, 2023).
The other competition in the official section is the debut feature film ZIFF – Zinebi First Film, in which nine feature films from 10 states will compete; among them is Basque production Zaratadirected by Tamara García Iglesias.
Mikeldi Honor Awards
As has been the case for more than twenty editions, Zinebi recognizes the professional and artistic careers of some relevant names in contemporary cinema. In this 65th edition, the festival awards these awards to two filmmakers –Frederick Wiseman and Rita Azevedo Gomes- and to the journalist and film critic Felix Linares.
Zinebi will announce his achievements on November 17.
Tickets
For screenings at the Azkuna Zentroa Auditorium and the Gólem Alhóndiga Cinemas, you can purchase individual tickets (4.50 euros) and 10 session bonuses (35 euros) starting November 5 at the Gólem box office.
In addition, and as a novelty this year, it will extend its projections to the free digital platform of EITB Primeranwhich will make available to all citizens a selection of Basque-produced films that have been screened in past editions of the Festival.
