Their presence in Scorsese’s film should not surprise anyone – they both have an excellent relationship with the director, having made a total of sixteen films with him. So far, however, they have not worked together as an actor-director trio.
During the press conference promoting “The Bloody Moon”, Martin Scorsese talked extensively about De Niro and DiCaprio’s cooperation on the set. To put it mildly, it wasn’t easy.

For De Niro and DiCaprio, it was the first time they worked on a feature-length film together in years. They already had the opportunity to play together when Leonardo DiCaprio was very young – there is over 30 years of age difference between the actors. They met for the first time on the set in 1993, then again in 1996. But then their joint projects ended.
Although De Niro was greatly impressed by the young and energetic DiCaprio in the 1990s, in the following 30 years the “Titanic” star developed his own acting method. As it turns out, completely different from De Niro’s approach. Martin Scorsese mentioned the differences. De Niro allegedly complained about the loose and improvisational approach to the script, and the long and intense “talking” about subsequent scenes.

Scorsese and his team have already received very positive reception, regardless of the film’s length. , the director himself will most likely also receive the most important nominations – for best film and best director. Will the rain of nominations that can be expected in January also end with a shower of statuettes? Scorsese hasn’t had much luck with the latter lately. Although his “The Irishman” was tipped as an Oscar winner (10 nominations!), it ultimately did not receive a single statuette in 2020. A similar fate befell “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Will Martin Scorsese finally be recognized by the Academy after 13 years since his last Oscar? We will find out at the beginning of next year.
