In 1981, “On Golden Pond” earned his father an Oscar for Best Actor and a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Jane.

A much less happy story is associated with the 1973 film “Paper Moon” by Peter Bogdanovich. It starred Ryan and Tatum O’Neil. She won an Oscar for best supporting role, she was only 11 years old then! However, the girl’s private drama was related to her professional distinction. The father was supposedly jealous of his daughter’s success. He abused her mentally and physically. He allegedly forced her to go on a “cocaine diet” when she gained weight, and she was allegedly forced to take opium at parties. O’Neal also admitted that she was molested by a drug dealer who supplied her father. For many years, Tatum O’Neil was an addict and at one point she lost her parental rights. She reconciled with her father after 25 years.
Other examples where parents and children met on the set include Will Smith in “The Pursuit of Happiness”, where he played with his son, or the case of Helena Englert, who debuted in 2013 in “Closed System”, where she played in his mother’s side. In the Harry Potter film series we also have such a case: the actor who played Mad-Eye Moody (Brendan Gleeson) is the father of the actor who played Bill Weasley (Domhnall Gleeson).
