TVP journalists were worried about the future even before the elections. “They laughed at me when I sent my CV”

The new arrangement of government forces also means changes for the public media. As it turns out, TVP employees were afraid of the lack of prospects in media unfavorable to PiS long before the elections. Finding a job with Telewizja Polska on your CV is apparently not the easiest thing. Many journalists who have been active for years understand why. They themselves would never have decided to work at the station during the PiS term.

One of the people contacted by the innpoland.pl editorial office declared that he had been working at the station for nine years. The task he performs is to send teams to selected events and protests. The editor’s interlocutor admitted that many TVP employees avoid political topics, and when they see an event on the calendar where opposition politicians may appear, they try to avoid being on duty.

It even happened that journalists and reporters took sick leave in such situations. As one of the station’s employees says, this is due to fear of the consequences and subsequent inability to find a job. – I heard more than once while talking about a cigarette that they don’t want to, because then they won’t find work anywhere. For most intelligent people it is obvious, because most people are seriously aware of what they are doing, why and on whose behalf – explains a person from TVP.

– I am one of those whose beliefs are different from the line presented on air, but the rate I got here is something I could have dreamed about for years while working for local publishers. I agreed, but I didn’t know it was a one-way ticket – says one of the TVP Info journalists who asked innpoland.pl to change the data. At the same time, he admits that he has been trying to find a new job for seven months – without success.

A TVP journalist went for a job interview. “I’ve never felt so stupid”

The journalist estimates that she sent about 40 job applications. Rarely did anyone call back, but they always ended the conversation after finding out where the job candidate was currently working. However, this was not the worst experience of TVP employees.

The woman went to the company, where she was offered coffee and a normal, pleasant conversation began. Unfortunately, hopes for employment quickly faded. – A guy known in the industry said with an ironic smile on his face: “Are you serious? You sat here and weren’t joking?” I’ve never felt so stupid, he says.

It has long been said in the journalistic community that not only people such as Danuta Holecka, Piotr Adamczyk or MichaƂ RachoƄ are burned outside the typically right-wing media, and it will be even more difficult without the government money that has been flowing to them in recent years through advertisements.

– TVP faces have no need to look for work in media untainted by propaganda. Recently, I even heard someone in the corridor saying that people like Holecka should be deprived of the right to practice their profession – a journalist with 20 years of experience tells me. Many people believe that it is difficult to justify the fact that someone still works for TVP or Polish Radio.

– We all have families, loans, rent. However, it didn’t last a year or two. Those who wanted to escape had the opportunity to act. If they stayed, now it will not be easy for them to find a job with such an employer on their CV – adds my interlocutor.

Another journalist, who also wanted to remain anonymous, emphasizes that she would not employ any of TVP’s employees for any position. – As a person who used to recruit for my website, I would reject CVs that included work at TVP and TVP Info in recent years. Yes, it is experience and school of life, but it is also experience in fairy tale writing and bending facts, and then putting your own name on it all. If it wasn’t valuable in those previous years, it doesn’t have to show up in the place I’m responsible for, he says.

My interlocutor points out that there are other ways to make money, it is not necessary to present people with distorted facts and manipulated information. However, he notes that in some media there will still be a place for TVP employees. – At least for some time, these employees will certainly be able to count on working in former newspapers and portals where the government advertised – it will not end so soon, whether we want it or not – he claims.

Tomasz Sakiewicz, head of “Gazeta Polska”, “Gazeta Polska DzieƄ” and TV Republika seems to confirm these words. In an interview with the Wirtualne Media portal, he emphasizes that he does not expect a worse period, on the contrary. – There will be more interest in the opposition media. We are already seeing these increases. When something happens, it always grows, he says.

At the same time, he points out that since 2016, many journalists from the media he supervises have moved to TVP due to better rates. – More people have left than are even working now. I will definitely be interested in working with some of them, he declares.

Another journalist admits to me that she was recently in a difficult professional situation. She worked in a editorial office whose strategy and policy she was ashamed of. – Of course, it wasn’t TVP level, but it was difficult for me to turn a blind eye to certain decisions – he says. – It’s not easy on the job market, I left overnight. At that time, most of the offers were advertisements from TVP, and I never submitted any CV to the public media. I expected that the alternative would be physical work, which would not be a disgrace to me at all, but after 10 years of journalistic experience, I wanted to develop in this profession. Despite this, everything was better than the vision of working for TVP – he emphasizes.
