In recent days, Telewizja Polska has been promoting its election evening, which is broadcast from a special election studio. It was prepared using special techniques previously used in film productions or sports event broadcasts.
However, TVP viewers could have been much more surprised by the exit poll results, according to which PiS won the elections, but most likely would not be able to form an independent government or even form a coalition with the weak Confederation in the elections. The turnout result in the referendum was also announced, and then Michał Rykowski invited viewers to the so-called winners’ staff.
TVP Info announces the election results
During the first seconds of the broadcast, we heard loud chants of “Jarosław”, but the faces of PiS politicians did not indicate their joy. The party leader from Nowogrodzka announced “the fourth victory in the history of our party”, but of course he made it clear that he was not yet sure whether this success could be changed in the next term. “We already have the first research results,” he said about the exit poll results. “But we must have hope,” he added later.
Then TVP decided to broadcast a speech by Donald Tusk from the Civic Coalition staff, which was also accompanied by thunderous applause.
I have never been so happy with this supposed second place in my life. Poland won. Democracy won. We removed them from power – chanted Donald Tusk.
Later, a report from the Third Way headquarters was shown, where Szymon Hołownia spoke. The former TV presenter also did not hide his joy at his group’s success. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz also spoke, describing this year’s elections as the beginning of a new stage in the history of Polish politics.
Politicians comment on the election results. But not everyone…
Politicians were the first to comment on the exit poll results on TVP. However, there was no representative of the Civic Coalition among the five guests. The national media studio included: Zbigniew Kuzimiuk (PiS), Michał Gramatyka (Polska 2050), Wojciech Konieczny (Left Wing), Dariusz Kacprzak (Non-Party Local Government Workers) and Jakub Banaś (Confederation).
The PiS representative spoke first and thanked for such a large turnout. “Democracy is flourishing in Poland. This has been questioned for many recent months. This turnout shows that Poles know how important their vote is and that is why they participated in these elections,” he admitted. He later admitted that after the final count of votes, the result of Law and Justice would probably be at the level of the 2015 parliamentary elections.
After Kuźmiuk’s speech, the other guests were not allowed to speak and it was decided to show a broadcast from the Left’s headquarters, where Czarzasty also referred to the situation from eight years ago, when the Left did not get into the Sejm. “After 18 years, the Left returns to co-ruling,” he finished his thought. Next, a speech was shown by Sławomir Mentzen, who called his party’s result a failure and blamed it, among others, on TVP, which was reluctant to invite politicians from this group to its programs.
“This empty chair also symbolizes a certain celebration.”
After showing speeches from all election headquarters, they returned to talks with politicians in the TVP studio. The first to speak was Michał Gramatyka from Poland 2050, who announced the huge success of his party, pointing out, however, that the exact results would be available only in a few days. The remaining guests then spoke, and at the very end of the conversation, the host said why no representative of the Civic Coalition was sitting at the table.
We would like to ask a representative of the Civic Platform about the election results, but we cannot. Because this representative is not with us. This empty chair also symbolizes a certain celebration, said Michał Rykowski.
Then Paweł Blajer and his guest presented a map of Poland showing which voivodeships a specific group won. More detailed exit poll results were also shown, divided into cities and villages.
Flagship publicists also appeared in the TVP studio
Later, the long-awaited “Danusia”, as Paweł Blajer introduced her, appeared in the studio. She was joined by commentators who have appeared very often on TVP in recent years, namely: Dorota Kania (Polska Press), Michał Karnowski (wPolityce.pl) and Tomasz Sakiewicz (“Dziennik Gazeta Polska”). “We know the results, but these are survey results,” Holecka began.
Commentators began to pay attention primarily to the high turnout. “A huge celebration of democracy,” Kania said. Meanwhile, the “Law and Justice wins the elections” bar was constantly displayed on the information bar, which also resonated with the statements of the host and guests, who unanimously stated that these were just polls. “Two days of nerves, two days of chaos,” Kania continued.
Politicians in heat with questions about the referendum. Their answers did not please the presenter, who cut them off
Later in the conversation, the election results were further commented on, but the most interesting part of the discussion occurred just before 10 p.m., when the topic of the referendum came up. Then we saw Michał Rykowski and his guests again. The PiS representative called 40 percent. referendum turnout as one of the largest in history. “The answers are overwhelming,” he added, in the context of the fact that approximately 90 percent the referendum response was consistent with the narrative of the ruling camp.
However, when representatives of the other election committees took the floor, the presenter started to interrupt them. When Michał Gramatyka started pointing out a tendentious question, Rykowski said “period” and allowed Dariusz Kacprzak to speak. He immediately made it clear that he only had 30 seconds to respond. When he also decided that the questions were poorly arranged, the presenter interrupted again and decided to give the floor to Banaś.
Now I’m just waiting, if these poll results are true, I’m just waiting for the whimper, in short, of PiS officers being pulled away from the trough and that you will all be looking for a job soon and then we will see how you will talk about how the state works and how democracy works – said Banaś.
When the Confederation representative started attacking the TVP employee more boldly, he once again interrupted his statement and invited Michał Blajera to watch the report, which once again presented detailed election results. After his material, Danuta Holecka appeared again, and I decided to change the TV channel. One hour was enough.
