Tickets can be withdrawn from today, until the day of the performance at the theater box office.

Characters of the city legends and other popular ones of this time create a Guayaquil Christmas in the musical work The Christmas of Juan Pueblo and his friends, presented in two free performances at the Theater Center of Art.

As with the Grinch, from Ron Howard, The wicked Tamarindo widow put together a plan to end the Christmas, for what it seeks to devour Santa Claus. Other characters participate in the story, such as Juan Pueblo, María Sin Tripa, Mustafá el Turco, Chinito Chin, and Negro Pirulí. In this way, it also incorporates figures that represent the colonies settled in Guayaquil, such as the Chinese, Lebanese and Afro-American colonies. “Each of the colonies is represented with their typical attire and their music”, says Luis Padilla Guevara, author of the libretto, music and lyrics of the songs of the work.

He says that the story, which had saved it for some time, presents the antagonistic character who arrives in Guayaquil and with his spells hypnotizes the children, to take advantage of eating Santa Claus.

For Jose Miguel Salem, director of the play and founder of Danzas Jazz, the plot rescues love, friendship and solidarity. “I think it is a very positive message for the city to receive it as it is, and to make the most of it (…) I find it nice to combine Guayaquil with Christmas, in such a beautiful way “, dice.

He also exposes being happy to return to the staging of shows. “I feel super happy because they are the first jobs that I am starting to do, after being locked up for almost a year and a half”, claims.

Regarding the staging, it says that: “It will have a great set that simulates Guayaquil, it will see 10 musical themes, there will be a lot of costumes, magic, lighting, special effects to characterize each scene”, mentions.

Maria Jose Palacios, 28, is the artist who gives life to Mary Without Gut. “She is a super dreamy 15-year-old girl who has been looking for her mother for a long time. In the story he meets some characters, one of them the archangel Michael who helps him find her ”, describe.

“María Sin Tripa is a personality of the Guayaquil people who triumphs despite all the difficulties, all the anguish, all the pain. She triumphs with her marimba, with her music and being a good girl ”, On the other hand, Padilla says, who maintains -according to his research- that this character really existed in 1930.

The actress and dancer of Danzas Jazz, says she feels grateful for sharing the stage with actors that she considers first-rate. “Each one brings a different character and really adds color to the work. In each scene you get to know the characters and you will fall in love with each one of them … ”, express.

Meanwhile, the villain of the story is personified by Ivonne Hidalgo. “Playing a role of evil is always stronger, it is the one that gets all the attention or the film for its performance … it entails more difficulty”, expresses and ensures that viewers are going to find a very funny work.

The work, which is presented by the Mayor’s Office of Guayaquil and the Municipal Tourism Company, is presented this Sunday at 11:30 and 18:00, in the Main Hall of the Centro de Arte Theater (Av. Carlos Julio Arosemena km 4.5 and Av. Del Bombero). Tickets can be withdrawn from today, until the day of the performance at the theater box office. (I)
