The attack that killed Yahav Winner took place on Kibbutz Kfar Aza, located in the south. The filmmaker’s wife, Shaylee Atary, who managed to escape the gunfire and brutal murder, told about the incident. A total of about 70 people died in the attack, including entire families and small children.

Yahav held the window to prevent the terrorists from entering, allowing me to escape through the door with Shayi. I am disabled. , but I ran without a cane, shoes and phone,” she says in the recording made available by Go2Films.

Shaylee hid for 26 hours without water and . She also helped a family living nearby find shelter. However, she did not know what happened to her husband. She learned that he had been murdered from Sky News. Later, in an interview with Deadline, she talked about the circumstances in which the crime occurred.

“He died from a single shot to the head. He did not suffer. I also know that he not only covered our bedroom window, but also tried to lock Shaya’s entrance door with his stroller to prevent terrorists from entering,” the director reported.

Shaylee Atary would like doctors to collect sperm from her husband posthumously. According to the director, this is a procedure that many Israeli women who have lost their partners are currently opting for. Yahav Winner was the director of the short film “The Boy”, about life on Kibbutz Kfar Aza. Together with his wife, he also collaborated on the film “Neurim”, which was shown at the Cannes festival three years ago.
