Open yourself to new things
Children want to experiment and discover new things. They don’t always succeed, but they are not afraid to make mistakes – they draw conclusions and act differently next time. And that’s where we, the adults, come in. Maybe we want young people to try new things, to choose what has a positive impact on them, but we don’t allow that. We focus on their safety and their well-being. We direct them to proven paths, provide solutions that have been replicated for years and do not allow them to discover what will really be important for them.
Barriers are often faced by girls who bravely want to try new things, not always doing what is “girly”. One is the lack of support from society, in which gender stereotypes are still alive, the other is support from loved ones – or rather the lack thereof. On October 11 we celebrate Girls’ Day. This is a good moment to show them that they do not always have to act according to the “instructions” imposed from above, and that creative freedom is something that will allow them to overcome the boundaries – which are set by others, but also imposed by themselves.

What does creative freedom give you?
Creative freedom is not only the ability to experiment and express yourself in many different ways. Discovering solutions develops imagination, strengthens self-confidence and faith in one’s own abilities. We learn to take responsibility for our (not always good) decisions, we deal with the consequences and draw conclusions for the future. By getting to know different things, we develop our passions and interests, we find out what really interests us and in what direction we want to move forward. Creative freedom also means a sense of agency, greater motivation to act, overcoming obstacles, constantly new possibilities and ideas – nothing supports creativity better.
And above all, creative freedom is great fun!
Fun without limits
Creative freedom is not only that which applies to works of art (although here it is worth forgetting about rigid rules, seeing what will happen if we use a leaf instead of a brush and make a figure not from a chestnut, but… from a plum ). The lack of imposed scenarios works best when having fun. Children, guided by their own instincts and needs, have the best time!
There are no limits in the world of blocks, and LEGO sets are a perfect example of this – they fit children’s interests and what currently interests them. Are games only for boys? NO! LEGO Minecraft is a series that girls love. It offers many possibilities: not only the creation of lands known from the virtual world, but also the creative use of individual elements. After all, Steve may look completely different, and the game’s opponents may turn out to be friends. Or maybe the angular world will become more rounded?
Instructions? Forget it!
Creative play means reaching for unusual solutions – replacing goods in a play store with blocks, using a wooden spoon as a pointer at school, or racing boxes found in the kitchen cabinet. The benefits of fun? Creativity! And this will develop when we allow young people to act on their own terms, without instructions. Are you afraid that something will go wrong and you will have to start over? Maybe so, but it doesn’t mean anything bad.

Imagination makes barriers disappear, it is only worth letting children use it. And we must stop thinking standardly – not only in the context of inventing new possibilities, using known things, searching for new solutions, but above all, we must abandon the division into what is “women’s” and “women’s”. men’s”. Toys have no gender, what matters is that they match your interests and allow you to have fun.
