There is a response from the Media Ethics Council to the complaint regarding Michał Rachoń. “He violated the rules”

The Media Ethics Council responded to the complaint of two MPs from the Civic Coalition. It concerns Michał Rachoń, an employee of Telewizja Polska, who in the second half of September disrupted Donald Tusk’s press conference in front of the headquarters of the Television Information Agency.

On September 19, in front of the headquarters of the Television Information Agency at Powstańców Warszawy Square, politicians of the Civic Coalition organized a press conference at which Donald Tusk spoke. The former prime minister called TVP a “lie factory” and stated that the democratic opposition would begin to appear again in national media programs during the election campaign.

Media Ethics Council: Michał Rachoń probably violated the rules of common decency

During Tusk’s speech, TVP employee Michał Rachoń left the building and began to aggressively disrupt the press conference. Politicians from the Civic Coalition tried to convince Rachoń to wait with questions until the end of the conference, but the man did not listen.

Opposition MPs Barbara Nowacka and Agnieszka Pomaska decided to file a complaint to the Media Ethics Council, pointing out that Michał Rachoń’s behavior was reprehensible. They issued the document the day after the conference. According to Wirtualne Media, REM’s response to this matter appeared on Friday.

“The principles of professional ethics set out in the Media Ethics Charter apply only to journalistic publications: a press article, a radio broadcast, a television program, etc. Therefore, a violation of any of them may only occur in the publication,” said the Media Ethics Council.

Moreover, the Council adds that it has “repeatedly accused TVP, the authors of journalistic programs – and, above all, information programs – of drastic violations of the principles of journalistic ethics, pointing out that this practice, contrary to the tasks of public media, results from TVP assuming the role of a propaganda mouthpiece for the ruling party.”

“With the behavior described by you in the complaint, editor Michał Rachoń probably violated the principles of social coexistence or common decency – but REM’s competences do not include formulating such assessments,” says the Media Ethics Council.

Rachoń will lead the pre-election debate on TVP

Michał Rachoń will be one of the co-hosts of the pre-election debate on TVP, which will be broadcast on October 9 at 6:30 p.m. The co-host of the program will be the female face of TVP Info, Anna Bogusiewicz. Representatives of six electoral committees will take part in the event: Mateusz Morawiecki (PiS), Donald Tusk (KO), Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus (New Left), Szymon Hołownia (Trzecia Droga), Krzysztof Bosak (Confederation) and Krzysztof Maj (Non-Party Local Government Workers).

It is worth mentioning that Rachoń is also the author of the series “Reset”, which was supposed to prove Donald Tusk’s alleged connections with Vladimir Putin. The first episodes were very popular, but the production also caused problems for the creators. The experts who appeared in it distanced themselves from the material, and the National Broadcasting Council received complaints about the manipulative nature of “Reset”.
