The writer accused the director of using refugees in the film as “a prop, an object of concern for the big-city intelligentsia.” A resident of Podlasie responded to the author.

Szczepan Twardoch decided to speak out on the matter and openly accused the director of treating refugees in the film as objects and being “a prop, an object of concern for the big-city intelligentsia.” According to the writer, their suffering is necessary so that the main character can take pity on them and show that she is above the inhabitants of Podlasie who, even though they individually help refugees, immediately reach for the phone to call the Border Guard.

In the winter forest on the Polish-Belarusian border there is an ocean of human suffering, floating in the bodies of children drowning in swamps and pregnant women thrown over wires, but the most important characters in Holland’s film are the characters played by Maja Ostaszewska and Maciej Stuhr.
