Luciano Pereyra cannot be stopped. Only halfway through the year was the Argentinian singer on tour, with the tour From now on, with whom he sang in Quito and Cuenca. Now the 42-year-old artist is promoting his new album material to the soul, in which he presents refreshing collaborations with musicians who are ‘luxury friends’ and with whom he is already on his way for a new tour (although Ecuador is not included this time for the time being). Luciano talks about his new production from his home in Luján.
What was the background for this new album that you are presenting?
Life itself, because it is always accompanied by music, songs and in my case especially because I am also celebrating 25 years of my career. Being able to celebrate this quarter of a century with music, with new material, is a blessing for me. It was a beautiful creative process, I really enjoyed it in each of the songs and in each of the collaborations like that of Pedro Capó, like that of Mala Rodríguez and in this case like a great luxurious friend like Luis Fonsi with this song that it is called summer nap.
What new stories will you bring us? to the soul?
Quite a few. There’s a song called I will survive, It is a song that I dedicate to God, who is fundamental in my life. There is also a song called Fanaticthat I wrote to my fans that we deserved it after so long, but it is also a song in which today I am grateful for social networks, because you also know a lot more about those who follow one and you end up becoming a fan of their fans .
Many artists feel that social media is a double-edged sword, but you are grateful for it. Aren’t you afraid of it? hate or those kinds of negative aspects of social media?
No, it seems to me that technology and social networks should be used properly, because reality does not happen through a screen. Reality is a hug, it is a kiss, it is a conversation, it is sharing time with someone, with yourself, sharing music, sharing silences. Social networks have played a very leading role during the pandemic, but unfortunately we are too connected and forget whether there is sun, whether it is day, whether it is night. Sometimes we send an audio message when it is better to talk on the phone and sometimes we talk on the phone when we have our friend four blocks from our house. I think social networks as a work and communication tool are very important, to have a much more fluid dialogue with fans, but life doesn’t happen, that’s where life happens.
Which social network do you usually use the most or the one you enjoy most to stay in touch with fans?
Twitter, Instagram, a bit of TikTok, but Instagram is where things are the most fluid, with a chat called Lucho chat, with those who are live at concerts or at sound checks and that’s a lot of fun.
What was the experience of working with the collaborators on this album, Fonsi, Pedro Capó and Mala Rodríguez?
Unbelievable, because they are artists that I love, that I admire. With Mala Rodríguez we have been recording this song since 2019, but we couldn’t include it in another album because we missed the music video and because of the times, the schedules and the pandemic they didn’t let us. Nowadays, in such a visual music world, we cannot leave out the music video. With Pedro Capó we were at the Viña del Mar Festival as a jury and from there we agreed that we had to make a song. We met in Miami and we ended up doing it, then he came to Argentina to promote and we were able to make the music video.
And we have known Luis Fonsi for many years, I invited him to sing in a Lunapark. We have had a very nice relationship, always connected and also when I have finished composing summer nap I’ll send it to you and tell you I’d love for you to join me on this song. He tells me “my brother, from one.” Having Luis Fonsi, a great ballad artist, is a luxury for me. We went to Madrid, we shot the music video and I said to myself: since we are going to Spain, let’s call Mala Rodríguez and if she is available, we will do it. So on a Saturday I was recording with Luis Fonsi and on a Sunday with Mala Rodríguez. That’s very nice, God’s times are perfect, sometimes you want to rush them, but we have to learn that his times are precise.

I noticed that you mention God a lot in this and other interviews. Have you always been a strong believer or did you become a believer through an experience?
As the years go by, you realize that yes, God is in every step you take, it’s about understanding that goes beyond situations that arise, in health or in life, understanding that when you wake up, you open your eyes and see, be able to smell, let the wind touch your face a little, be able to talk, be able to hug, be able to love, there is a lot to be grateful for. You have barely started the day and that is already a miracle, we are a miracle every day.
I read in an article that Argentina is positioning itself as a new epicenter of urban music in South America. What is your opinion on that idea, as an Argentinian artist?
Music and its cycles move forward, they evolve and artists that travel the world like María Becerra, like Bizarrap, are artists that travel the world carrying the flag of our country and also collaborating with other artists. I’m proud that this is happening, and also that they are the ones encouraging collaborations. Because day after day they help us understand that music is not for comparison, but for enjoyment, they continue to break the prejudices that if they make one genre, you can’t make another. In music we can live in harmony and that is fantastic.
