The nobility doesn’t work. Netflix goes out of its way and announces a series no one asked for

“You’re my boy. That’s just what they say. Of course, you’re my boy. You’re my boy,” says the main character of the new Netflix comedy series “1670” to one of his serfs. This nobleman named Jan is played by none other than Bartłomiej Topa. The first fragments from the trailer already indicate that viewers are in for quite a lot of fun.

So far, the funniest Polish nobleman was Mr. Zagłoba, but he is facing fierce competition. he used the extremely comically pleasing topic of Polish Sarmatia to show the charms of life on a noble farm at the end of the 17th century in the series “1670”. Those who are afraid that what awaits us is humor straight from school notebooks, relax. Behind the production is a team of young creators, headed by Maciej Buchwald, known from the improvisational group Klancyk, as one of the directors, and screenwriter Jakub RuŻYło (in some circles known as a rapper with the charming nickname Muflon). And in addition, the cast includes Michał Balicki – the same one who played Stomil with such great verve in “Emigracja XD”.

“We, the Sarmatians, are the chosen people.” Netflix made a comedy about the Polish nobility

“In the 17th century, Poland was a territorial power, and the nobility had to work very hard to live with dignity,” writes Netflix in a statement announcing the new series, and there is something captivating about it. Because, as we know from all the statuses on Gronie, Gadu-Gadu and Facebook – “The nobility doesn’t work”. Therefore, we should not be surprised that the hero, played with exceptional charm by Bartłomiej Topa, emphasizes: “We, the Sarmatians, are the chosen people. By the clear will of the Creator, we have the greatest minds, hearts and phalluses.”

What else do we know about him? He is “the owner of the (smaller) half of the village of Adamczeja” and “dreams of being written down in the history of Poland – the most powerful country in the world. His string of successes in life allows us to think that he is on the right track. After all, he inherited everything he has himself, and he achieved all the rest through the hard work of his own peasants,” the creators announce.

However, the life of a nobleman is not a bed of roses. Jan’s ambitious plans, however, are disturbed by the difficult everyday life of the landowner: the idea of raising taxes has to be vetoed at the local council again, the peasants, unconvinced by the trickle-down theory, lose their motivation to work, the daughter is opposed to marrying off the magnate’s son, and the insidious neighbor Andrzej is plotting how to collect larger crops in this way. year… In addition, the Polish nobility is now maliciously falling. Fortunately, providence is always on Poland’s side, and Jan’s progressive thinking will allow him to get out of any situation and achieve eternal glory! – we read. However, the trailer itself strongly suggests that this synopsis does not do full justice to the series itself. However, everyone will only find out about this in December, when the production will appear on the platform.

Netflix made a comedy series about the Polish nobility

What is in favor of the project? First of all, the cast itself, in the series, apart from Bartłomiej Topa with a Sarmatian mustache, we will also see: Katarzyna Herman (wife Zofia), Martyna Byczkowska (daughter Aniela), Michał Balicki (son Stanisław) and Michał Sikorski (son Jakub – he looks like the Polish incarnation of Black Adder) . Apart from them, Kirył Pietruczuk (the peasant Maciej) and Dobromir Dymecki (a temporarily landless, pure-blooded sixth-generation nobleman, Bogdan) also got important roles. Secondly: the trailer already shows that Akson Studio, which produced “1670”, put a lot of effort into the set design and costumes, which do not resemble theater props.

Thirdly, the series “1670” is made by a team of young guys who, in recent years, have made a lot of jokes without embarrassment their professional path. The director is Maciej Buchwald (my friend works as an improviser in the Klancyk group, and is also a stand-up comedian, screenwriter, actor and performer) and Kordian Kądziela (e.g. he received an award at the Gdynia Film Festival for the best film in the Young Cinema Competition for ” a brave look at the world of intellectual absurdity). The originator and screenwriter of the project is Jakub Rurzałło, who in recent years has been a successful screenwriter of “The Office PL”, “Kryptonym Polska” and “We have to”. Apart from his activity in the film industry, he was also known as the rapper Muflon, who in 2006 and 2008 was the winner of the final of the Great Battle of Warsaw (the event is attended by rappers specializing in freestyle). To make it even more interesting, from 2014 to 2019 he hosted the program “Tony z concreteu” on Radio Three.
