he passed on his artistic genes to his three children: Yann is a cinematographer, while Maria and Maximilien pursue acting. The career of the younger son has recently gained a dizzying pace on the Western market. From September 29, he can be seen in Jan Holoubek’s film. The film received five awards at this year’s Gdynia film festival. The main roles are played by Jakub Gierszał and Tomas Schuchardt. Andrzej Seweryn played the father of one of the characters, and Maximilien Seweryn played the journalist Pierre. He most often plays in France and England. However, few people know that he made his debut in a Polish production. At that time he could still speak Polish. What has changed since then?
The son of a famous actor made his debut with Wajda. He played there with his father
Maximilien Seweryn is the fruit of his third relationship with Lebanese actress Mirelle Maalouf. He was born in 1989 in France, where he was raised and grew up. For this reason, he speaks French fluently, but he also knows German and English very well, because he graduated in London. This, in turn, gave him a lot of professional opportunities and opened the door to his career. Despite this, he first appeared on screen in 2002, playing an episode in “Zemsta”, in which the character of Notary was created by his father. In the following years, he appeared mainly in international projects, such as “Go Home”, “Orphan” and “Notre-Dame is Burning”. Some time ago, he met his father again on the set, this time while shooting Jan Holoubek’s new film, which won as many as five Golden Lions at the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia.
Seweryn’s son would like to cooperate with Polish artists. However, the obstacle is not knowing the language
On the day of the film’s premiere in Poland, September 29, 2023, Maximilien Seweryn willingly gave interviews to Polish journalists. In an interview with the portal, he decided to reveal his plans for the near future. He admitted that he did not rule out the idea of staying in Poland for some time and trying his hand at the local film industry. – We’ll see what happens. My career is now more in France and the UK. Simply because life worked out that way, I grew up in France, not Poland. However, there is a lot of great cinema, television shows and performances being shot in Poland now. We’ll see where it takes me, who knows, maybe it will be Poland. I like this vision, he said.
Although Polish cinema fascinates him, he has considerable difficulties in getting roles, and a famous name is not a discount in his case. Although Maximilien is half Polish, he cannot speak Polish well. It is true that he learned this language as a child, but when he encountered the first difficulties, he gave up continuing his studies. Today he doesn’t hide the fact that he regrets it. – I spoke Polish until I was five and I was doing quite well with it. Then I had a small crisis, I would even say a rebellion. I said I didn’t want to speak Polish anymore and my parents said “ok,” he recalled.
After the success of Holoubek’s new film, in which he attracted the interest of Polish filmmakers, he has much more motivation to catch up. “If I put my heart into it, I think I would remember quickly,” he said. He even has people willing to help. Recently, his 7-year-old nephew became his tutor. – I realized how many letters there are in the Polish language that are not in our alphabet, such as a crossed out “l” or a “z” with a dot – he said in an interview.
