“The Green Border” is about to break the magical barrier of half a million viewers! Record second weekend

Agnieszka Holland’s latest film boasts an excellent turnout. Within ten days of its premiere, “The Green Border” has already been seen by 425.2 thousand people. viewers. Moreover, viewers were more likely to visit cinemas on the second weekend of the production’s screening.

According to the distributor Kino Świat, “The Green Border” has already been seen in cinemas by a total of 425,194 viewers! On the opening weekend, the film was watched by just over 137,000 viewers, which already guaranteed the production the best Polish opening this year, but it turns out that the second weekend was even better.

Seven days after the premiere of “The Green Border”, the film was seen in cinemas by 260,000 people. viewers, and in the second weekend after the premiere, the production was watched by 165,000. people. This means that we managed to collect approx. 28 thousand. more viewers than on the opening weekend.

There was already a lot of talk about the production before its premiere. “The Green Border” was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, and critics from around the world were very impressed with the production.

However, in Poland there was a massive campaign against the film by the ruling politicians and the so-called public media. They called the film a lampoon and said it was “anti-Polish” because it shows an allegedly false image of the functioning of the border guard on the Polish-Belarusian border.

As you can see, this did not make Poles decide to boycott the production. This large turnout proves that most of us decided to see with our own eyes what the tone of the film was and then make our own judgment about the production.

What is “The Green Border” about?

The main character of the production is psychologist Julia (Maja Ostaszewska), who decides to move to Podlasie. Once there, she discovers the brutal reality of the Polish-Belarusian border. Terrified by this situation, she decides to get involved in helping refugees and joins a group of activists that helps newcomers camping in the forests in the zone covered by a state of emergency.

At the same time, a Syrian family fleeing the civil war and their Afghan teacher, not knowing that they are tools of political fraud by the Belarusian authorities, are trying to get to the borders of the European Union. In Poland, fate will bring them together with Julia and the young border guard Jan (Tomasz W³osok). The events taking place around them will force them all to ask themselves anew the question – what is humanity?
