The critic accused the creators of “Peasants” of using AI. The director couldn’t stand it: A slanderous accusation

Film critic Tomasz Raczek publicly stated that artificial intelligence was used in the production of “Peasants”. The director of the Polish Oscar candidate immediately responded to this accusation. DK Welchman did not mince her words when she made a “slanderous accusation” against the filmmakers.

Just two days ago we learned the title of the Polish candidate for the Oscar. , but the Oscar Committee ultimately decided otherwise. This year directed by DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman. It is a stop-motion animation based on images created using oil painting.

“Peasants” and artificial intelligence. Tomasz Raczek makes accusations

, a well-known film critic, accused the creators that only every fifth frame was hand-painted, and the remaining ones were generated using artificial intelligence. He was supposed to receive this information from people cooperating with the production of the Polish Oscar candidate. Finally, he described “Chłopów” as a “chocolate-like product”.

“Collaborators of the creators of “Peasants” claim that in the film there was a painting on the canvas every 5th frame and the rest of the work was done by AI… If in “Twój Vincent” there were 12 painted images per second, and in “Peasants” only 6 painted images + another 18 frames per second created by a computer, I think I understand the reason for the difference in the quality of the film image in the cinema. It turns out that “Chłopi” is a bit of a chocolate-like product,” we read in a post posted on Facebook by Tomasz Raczek.

Director DK Welchman has already responded to the critic’s accusations. In an interview with Interia, she firmly denied any reports about the use of AI technology in the production of “Peasants”.

“Here I also wanted to add an important statement, or rather a response to the slanderous accusation that the film was made only partly painted and partly using a filter. Spreading such information after we – the creators and production of the film, told how the film was created, that it was created manually, using stop-motion animation, it’s like accusing us of lying. You may like the film or not, but I won’t allow you to call me a liar… Neither AI nor any filters were used in the production of this film,” she told Interia.

Other people working on the film also deny the use of artificial intelligence. In their opinion, key frames created using oil painting were supplemented with digitally painted images. This technique, in turn, has nothing to do with artificial intelligence.
