“Chłopi” is a candidate for an Oscar, but “Wiadomości” is a more important film. “Green border” in two materials

“Chłopi”, starring, among others: Kamila Urzêdowska and Miros³aw Baka are officially the Polish candidate for the Oscar. This was reported by all major media, including “Wiadomości”. However, at the end of the program, after more than five times longer material about the “Green Border”.

– The Polish candidate for the most prestigious film award, the Oscar, will be “Chłopi” directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman – said the host of “Wiadomości” Edyta Lewandowska in the material “Niezwykli ‘Chłopi on the way to the Oscar” (let us clarify that it is DK Welchman, formerly Kobiela , the director now uses a new name).

“Chłopi” for half a minute, “Green Border” for three

In the approximately 35-second material, which started in the 25th minute of the main edition of the TVP program, we see fragments of the trailer and learn that the painting animation was prepared by over 100 artists, and “Peasants” will be shown in cinemas from October 13.

The material preceding the information about the success of “Peasants” was an over three-minute column devoted to “The Green Border” by Agnieszka Holland – it was the second mention of the winner of the Special Jury Prize from Venice that day. First, Lewandowska spoke about the film as “an image cherished by the politicians of the Civic Coalition” in the segment “Polish uniform – a sacred thing”, dedicated to border guards. The second one, titled “Berlin invests in the opposition”, was intended to convince viewers of “Wiadomości” that the financing of “The Green Border”, which was created without the support of the Polish Film Institute, was shady. A long time ago, Minister of Culture Piotr Gliński emphasized on Twitter that the film Holland is not financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Polish Film Institute or any institutions related to the ministry.

It also hits the opposition media

It is true that the producers of “The Green Border” did not apply to the Polish Film Institute for funding for the film at all. – I am involved in two projects by Agnieszka Holland – the film “The Green Border” and the biography of Franz Kafka. We did not want to submit two applications for funding at the same time. We decided – together with Agnieszka Holland, who is the co-producer of both films – that it was worth applying for the “Kafka” subsidy. We knew that financing of “The Green Border” from international sources was more likely – Marcin Wierzchosławski, president of Metro Films, the Polish producer of the film, told “Gazeta Wyborcza”.

One of the allegations against Holland’s film is the financial support of the German television ZDF, and the problem is also PLN 300,000. PLN from the Masovian and Warsaw Film Fund. – I don’t even know what films win and in what competitions – said the mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, when asked by other media about this amount. The politician added that he found out about the financing of the “Green Border” “ex post, because we do not censor culture.”

The “Wiadomości” reporter, who “follows the money”, also points out that “Holland’s film has now been defended by the opposition media, including the TVN station founded by collaborators of the communist services of the Polish People’s Republic.”

Meanwhile, “The Green Border” enjoys great interest among Polish cinemagoers. Over 137,000 were sold on the opening weekend. tickets. This is the best opening of a Polish film this year.
