President Andrzej Duda will not go to the cinema to see “The Green Border”. “I have no intention of paying specially for it”

On Thursday evening, President Andrzej Duda spoke again about the film, which he has not seen and does not intend to watch for now. He did not change his opinion about Agnieszka Holland’s “The Green Border” in a conversation with Bogdan Rymanowski.

Bogdan Rymanowski talked to the president of Polsat’s “Guest of Events”. Questions couldn’t help but be asked about “” – a film that no one in the government has seen yet, but everyone knows what’s in it. The president explained why he would not go to see this production in the cinema.

President Andrzej Duda about the “Green Border”

film from TVP. On Thursday evening, however, he was the guest of Bogdan Rymanowski. He did not recant his words about “slandering Polish officers”, which does not take place in “The Green Border”. However, the president won’t find out about it soon, because he’s not going to see the movie anytime soon:

There will definitely be some opportunity to see it, but I have no intention of going to the cinema and paying for it especially, he said.

What doesn’t Andrzej Duda like about the production? The president treats the “Green Border” very personally, and such a presentation of the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border is, in his opinion, an attack on Poland:

People who have seen this film have told me, which I regret to admit, that in fact when you watch it, this impression is unambiguous. The point is not to create any sympathy for migrants regarding their difficult situation, it is a film that was supposed to evoke positive social emotions, but it is a film that was created to attack Polish officers, the authorities of the Republic of Poland. As president, I cannot praise something like this. I can only comment critically, said Andrzej Duda.

“The Green Border” is not a film against Poland?

The president, who expects “positive, social emotions” from a film about the drama on the Polish-Belarusian border, eagerly listens to voices suggesting that “The Green Border” presents “Polish officers as almost sadists”, as he said in an interview with TVP. Meanwhile, viewers’ opinions are completely different. , and the story is universal:

We live in times when human migrations will become larger and more frequent. I don’t know if this film is only about Europe or the whole world – said Gabriela Ɓazarkiewicz-Sieczko, co-writer of “The Green Border” in an interview with Agnieszka Lichnerowicz on TOK FM.

This is not a lampoon of the Border Guard, PiS or PO, it is not propaganda or a political manifesto. It is a story about the drama of people who want to remain those people – writes editor Justyna Bryczkowska from Kultura.gazeta.pl, who, unlike the president, saw the film.

Foreign reviewers who watched “The Green Border” at the Venice International Film Festival have a similar opinion. “A blow straight to the weave”, “social criticism wrapped in barbed wire with strong, intelligent filmmaking”, “one of the best films about the refugee crisis” – we read in numerous opinions. The competition jury shared them and awarded Agnieszka Holland a special prize.
