Discussions about the new film directed by Michał Gazda and starring Leszek Lichota have been going on for months. Despite initial concerns, after several pre-premiere screenings, the reviews are almost exclusively positive. The delights do not diminish after the official premiere, which took place on September 18, 2023 at the National Theater in Warsaw. One of the invited guests was Tomasz Stockinger, who created an unforgettable portrayal of Count Czyński in the cult film adaptation of the novel from 1982, which can be seen at .
In an interview, he talked about his impressions after the screening of the new version of Professor Wilczur’s story. Without hesitation, he stated that the creators were up to the challenge and the production was made at a world-class, almost Hollywood level. – I watched with admiration and envy. With envy because I don’t have to deal with such a super-production every day. Apparently it was supposed to be, and is, a blockbuster intended for the international market. I think this film has a chance to be a hit, he said with conviction.

Stockinger also addressed the opponents of the refreshed version, emphasizing that they had nothing to fear. Gazda’s film is not a faithful reflection of the original. Although the plot focuses on the fate of the title character, numerous side plots give it a completely different tone and character. – This film did not imitate ours, it created a new quality. This is a film that cannot be compared at all. There is no point in comparing the actors either. This is a different proposal, very interesting and extensive, he said.
He also did not fail to mention the cast, which made a huge impression on him. His attention was particularly drawn to Ignacy Liss who, like Stockinger years ago, created the character of Count Czyński on the screen. He admitted that it was not an easy role, but there was no doubt that the young actor fully coped with it. – I have no complaints or reservations here. On the contrary, I liked it all very much – he said. – It was a pleasure to watch Ignacy in this difficult role. Because it is not as easy as it seems to play sincere feelings and at the same time maintain the count’s style – he concluded.
