Duda outraged by the “green border”. He talks about sadism and refers to Nazi propaganda: I’m sorry

Andrzej Duda spoke about Agnieszka Holland’s latest film. The president’s statement suggests that he has not seen the film, but criticized it. Instead of congratulations for the award in Venice, there were references to Nazi propaganda.

The latest film will be released in cinemas across Poland on September 22. Previously, participants of the Venice festival and critics had the opportunity to see the material during press screenings. Although the reviews of the film are favorable and journalists emphasize that it is a universal and necessary production, it is highly controversial in right-wing circles.

Andrzej Duda commented on Agnieszka Holland’s “The Green Border”.

Internet commentators, but also leading Polish politicians, accuse Agnieszka Holland of attacking the Polish uniform. There was even a comparison to Nazi propaganda. Andrzej Duda also commented on the film. There is nothing good to say about the painting.

After Agnieszka Holland received a distinction from the jury at the Venice festival for “The Green Border”, one could have expected congratulations from the Polish president. Nothing could be further from the truth. In an interview with TVP quoted by the Wirtualna Polska portal, Andrzej Duda quoted comments about the film, because he apparently did not watch it himself.

“I am sorry that such a film is being made, which – as I have heard – definitely denigrates Polish officers. I even read an opinion that it shows them as almost sadists,” the president said. “And these are people who perform their duties, who perform tasks, who guard the border of the Republic of Poland and the safety of Poles,” he continued.

“I’m not surprised by the Border Guard officers”

Duda did not say whose opinions he was quoting. Since its world premiere, the creators and reviewers have denied that the film was intended to discredit the Border Guard. Maciej Stuhr, who played an episodic role in the production, even points out that such a move could not have taken place, and “The Green Border” shows many perspectives. However, what he is most upset about is the heartless system and the European Union.

However, the President of Poland supports the words of the uniformed officers. “I am not surprised that the Border Guard officers who saw this film used the slogan ‘only pigs sit in the cinema’, known to us from the times of the Nazi occupation, when Nazi propaganda films were shown in our cinemas,” Duda said.
