For some time now, there have been rumors of increasingly frequent suspension of benefits, to which MPs have drawn attention. MEPs pointed out that a large number of pregnant women are suspended, which makes their lives much more difficult because they do not receive money even for many months while waiting for an explanation. – Waiting for a child should be a time of peace, not additional stress caused by a state institution. Pregnant women and mothers whose basis for benefits is questioned by the Social Insurance Institution remain destitute and do not know how long this procedure will take – it was written in a letter to . – Unfortunately, this maternity protection only exists on paper. In fact, the Social Insurance Institution may withhold benefits from a pregnant woman who is on sick leave. This affects thousands of women in Poland who, in the last weeks of pregnancy, instead of preparing to enlarge their family, wait until ZUS finishes checking whether they are entitled to the money, despite the contributions they have paid in accordance with the law. Women who have just given birth to a child are in a similar situation and their entitlement to maternity benefits is checked by ZUS for months. All this time they have no means of subsistence.
The letter also drew attention to the forms of employing employees: B2B or mandate contracts. Data from CEiDG were also cited. They show that this year even 950 thousand women in Poland run a sole proprietorship and cannot be sure that in the event of pregnancy their right to receive benefits will not be questioned.
