Maja Ostaszewska on divisions in Poland: For some, it is politically profitable

Maja Ostaszewska is a renowned actress who is also known for her social activities. During the premiere of the film “In-Laws 2”, the Plotka reporter asked the actress whether the divisions in our society have a chance to end. The conversation also mentioned the foreign success of “The Green Border” and the Polish campaign against this film.

Recently, two productions with Maja Ostaszewska playing the main roles will be shown in cinemas. This is the second part of the comedy “In-Laws 2” by Kalina Aladrukińska and “Zielona granica” directed by Agnieszka Holland. During the premiere of this first production, Plotka journalist Karolina Sobocińska talked to the famous actress about the divisions in Polish society, referring to the two premiere titles.

“I hope this bad narrative will end soon and we will finally start to like each other.”

The reporter referred to the plot of “In-Laws”, which revolves around two families from different worlds. Therefore, she asked Ostaszewska whether the divisions that exist in our society can be abolished in the current pre-election period. The actress said that there is a place for everyone in Poland, at the same time drawing attention to the recent wave of hate towards the “Green Border”:

Unfortunately, building these divisions seems to be politically profitable for some people and they inflame this topic and their reluctance. Most recently, the case of my film, which was an incredible success at the Venice festival – “The Green Border”. We left there with the Special Jury Award, but here there was a campaign against this film by people who had not seen it – said the actress.

Later in the conversation, she said that the film is beautiful and its message is not “anti” in any sense. “The problem is that it benefits someone to make us dislike each other, but Poles are actually capable of being open,” admitted Ostaszewska.

At the end of the interview, the actress was asked whether she would vote. Ostaszewska replied in the affirmative, emphasizing that she has participated in every election since she was able to take part in them. “This year it is especially important to me because I think this is one of the breakthrough moments when you have to vote for democracy,” she concluded.
