The 75-year-old actor graduated from the State Theater School in Warsaw in 1971, after which he played in many theaters. He made his debut on the small screen four years later in the TV drama “A Little Matter” directed by Janusz Kondratiuk. Then he played episodic characters in many films and series, and the breakthrough in his career came only in 1988, when the series “W Labiryncie” debuted on TVP2.
He starred in a hit series, but no new offers came. He had to leave
His role in the first Polish soap opera brought him incredible popularity, and many of his fans thought that thanks to this the actor would be able to spread his wings even more. Moreover, he was offered a role in the series by the director and screenwriter Piotr Karpiński, with whom the actor was friends. His hero, Jan Duraj, was a pharmacologist and Ola’s concerned father, struggling with everyday problems.
However, the appearance in the TVP hit did not bring any further major roles. After the production of the soap opera ended, the actor did not receive any new offers and decided to go abroad to earn money. In a recent interview, he told how he recalled those times:
I fell into a box that was hard for me to get out of. I was so sorry. It was then that I realized that I could be an actor, so, waiting for new challenges, I went to Norway to work. (…) So I worked as a ‘construction worker’ – I plastered and painted houses.
After some time, the actor decided to return to his homeland, where he was offered a job as a waiter. He immediately accepted this offer, but he also took up other activities. “Customers were sometimes surprised to see me. They always remembered me from the series ‘In the Labyrinth’ and thought I had changed my profession. I also earned money in other ways. I completed training and sold vacuum cleaners, and then insurance policies,” said Skarga.
The actor constantly had to cope somehow, and there were no new acting offers. In the conversation, he confessed that it was very difficult for him and his only support was his wife Beata. “Don’t believe everything they write on the Internet. It wasn’t that bad. But a lot of it was thanks to my wife. She supported me all the time, believed in me. And she still does. We are a very loving couple.” – He admitted.
Fate smiled on him only in the 2000s. In 2004, the series “Pensjonat pod Różą” appeared on Polsat, where Skarga played the role of Apoloniusz Kucharski. In the same year, he also appeared in the TVP series “Bulionerzy”. He played the main role in it – the head of the family, Piotr Nowik.
