We have become accustomed to TikTok being flooded with videos of all sorts of new trends, challenges, etc., which do not always make sense or have any explanation. In this case it is quite similar. This is a question that women have been asking their partners and male friends for some time, and then documenting their answers. It reads: “How often do you think about the Roman Empire”? The trend, of course, also spread to Polish TikTok users.
Why the Roman Empire? This is not known, and neither do most users of the popular Chinese social media platform. Some Internet users conclude that the entire “challenge” is intended to indicate that men’s minds are often occupied with thoughts about ancient Rome. Is this really the case? “My boyfriend doesn’t have TikTok, so it’s not fake. He told me that several times a week he started telling me some interesting facts. I was shocked,” one TikToker wrote under one of the videos.
“Mine replied that he regularly did, and now I’m listening to the most important empire in the history of mankind, which shaped today’s civilization,” added another. “I asked mine too. I don’t know if they’re screwing us over or what,” writes another TikTok user.
The purpose and meaning of the trend is as yet a mystery. Separate videos are already being created about the “riddle” circulating on TikTok. In one of them, for example, one of the users of the platform says: “I saw a tiktok where a tipster said that she had seen another tiktok where another tipster asked her husband how often he thinks about the Roman Empire. And he said that he very often …” – she said. So she decided to ask her husband about the same thing.
Does your husband think about the Roman Empire? “All the time”
The answer caught her completely off guard. “He says, ‘Well, sometimes,'” she continued. She then encouraged her followers to ask their male partners and friends the same thing. – Because I don’t understand. What’s going on here? Why are they thinking about this? (…) And why so often? – she asked with a smile.
Foreign media offered a certain explanation, also on TikTok. It was published by a user running an account called @listenwithbritt, who was also surprised to discover that her husband “thinks about the Roman Empire all the time.” “Every boy I ever met wondered if he could survive in the Roman legion,” her husband explained. “It’s a normal thing,” he added. The Roman Empire, or Imperium Romanum
So the purpose of the trend taking over TikTok remains a mystery, but since we’re on the topic of the Roman Empire, here’s some information. Roman Empire, in Latin Roman Empire, is indeed the cradle of European civilization. It was an ancient country covering the Mediterranean Sea. It was created as a result of the transformation of the earlier Roman republic into a monarchy. It was assumed that the beginning Roman Empire It dates back to 27 BC. Then Gaius Octavius received the title of Augustus from the Senate and thus became the most important person at the head of the state.
At the beginning, the form of government was the so-called principate. Formally, it was based on the previous system, but it was the emperor who had the highest power over the republic’s offices and was the commander of the army. During the times of emperors Diocletian and Constantine, the government transformed into a dominion, with the position of the emperor strengthened.
And the Roman legions mentioned by the husband of one of the above-mentioned tiktokers were the basic and largest tactical unit of the ancient Roman army. They were the equivalent of today’s divisions. They consisted primarily of heavily armed infantry. Legion literally means “conscription”. At the beginning of existence Roman Empire this name was used to describe the entire Roman army, i.e. all men called to arms. For many hundreds of years, only Roman citizens could serve there. In turn, craftsmen also took part in the legions’ expeditions: carpenters, engineers and stonemasons – as auxiliary troops.
