Mrs. Beata asked the priest for a receipt. He felt offended. “He said it was a scandal”

A woman asked a Catholic priest for a baptism certificate. The priest demanded payment for it. His behavior outraged the woman. She shared her experiences on the X platform (formerly Twitter). Her entry became loud in the media.

Mrs. Beata, baptized in a small town in Lower Silesia, described some time ago an unpleasant telephone conversation she had with a certain clergyman. As she revealed, she asked him for a baptism certificate. The man stated that he would not issue the document for free.

The priest said that such a question was a scandal. “I still believe in God, but not in priests”

Mrs. Beata agreed to the fee. However, she decided to ask if she would receive a receipt for this. It turns out that the priest felt offended by this question. As the author of the entry mentions, the man did not intend to issue such a payment confirmation. – He said that my question was a scandal – wrote Mrs. Beata on the X platform. I still believe in God, but not in priests – she concluded her entry.

How much does it cost to issue a document? Some places even have price lists for services. From PLN 20 to PLN 100

It is worth mentioning that Mrs. Beata’s story is not an isolated case. Similar situations take place from time to time in many churches in our country and are publicized on social media. It happens, for example, that in some parishes documents (such as baptism or confirmation certificates) are issued after paying the amount “whatever you want”. However, there are also places where price lists for this type of services already exist. The price usually ranges from PLN 20 to even PLN 100. However, we must not forget that there are also clergy who issue documents for free.
