September 18, 2023 is the day when we say goodbye to traditional paper reports left by chimney sweepers after a chimney inspection. They will be replaced by electronic versions, and each building owner or manager is obliged to have such a protocol. Failure to do so may result in a high fine.

The General Office of Construction Supervision announced that electronic chimney inspection protocols will come into force from September 18 this year. They are intended to improve work efficiency and facilitate control over whether a given building has been inspected.

Chimney inspection. How often should we do it?

The Central Emission Register of Buildings will check whether the owner or manager of a given building has a valid chimney inspection. According to construction law, this type of inspection should be performed at least once a year. The frequency of inspections depends on the type of fuel we use. If the building is fired with coal, solid fuel or wood, chimneys should be cleaned up to 4 times a year. In the past, the protocol was written on paper, but this year a digital revolution is coming.

Keep your chimney inspection valid. Otherwise, you may face a fine of up to PLN 500

Thanks to the e-protocol, not only will chimney sweepers’ work be easier, but CEEB also assumes that the air quality in the country will improve because officials will have insight into whether a given building has passed the inspection. If the inspector discovers that a chimney inspection has not been carried out in our house, he may impose a fine of up to PLN 500 on us. To avoid such a situation, it is worth checking during the chimney sweeper’s visit whether there is an e-protocol in our account in the CEEB system. Let us remember that regular chimney inspections are important for our life and health. This will reduce the risk of fire or poisoning, e.g. with carbon monoxide, but will also increase the chance of receiving any compensation.
